Tomorrow I have to call the mortgage company and tell them I can't afford to pay them

Whatever you tell them it will be looked on more favourably than not contacting them.
Good luck with it, and never give up hope.Debt -it's a fight that I'm winning, dealing with debt one day at a time.

Yes I would definitely pay them what you can even if it is not the full amount agreed. Sign up to GA and put whatever steps in place you can to stop yourself gambling in the future. If you have a partner engage their help maybe with her managing the finances until you are no longer gambling. Do a budget/soa showing what you can afford to overpay and do not promise an unrealistic amount.
Your mortgage provider cannot just take your house off you as a previous poster has explained. If you keep them informed and show a genuine willingness to overcome your gambling addiction and start mortgage payments again they will much prefer to help you with that. Do not ignore letters or they may well end up initiating court proceedings and this adds costs on to your already increasing debt.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. I wouldn't go into too much detail, you could say that you spent more over Christmas than you had planned for, not a lie and I'm sure others have done the same, though on different things.
You've had a lot of good advice here, take the first step with GA, good luck.0 -
Ok guys. Thank you for all your help. I am plucking up the courage to call them now. God I feel sick.0

lesson here - you dont ask you dont get“People are caught up in an egotistic artificial rat race to display a false image to society. We want the biggest house, fanciest car, and we don't mind paying the sky high mortgage to put up that show. We sacrifice our biggest assets our health and time, We feel happy when we see people look up to us and see how successful we are”
