New PC - what to look for?

Let me know when you wake up and appreciate a real computer/OS....one that doesn't require 50 updates before you can use it.
"Where once I was blind, now I can see."
Oh i'm wide awake right now thanks. Sat here at this perfectly running windows 7 PC that I built about 3 years ago. A few internal upgrades but no failures and no issues.
Same can't be said for my sisters IMAC - i'm sure she'd call apple about it but her phone bent when she sat down0 -

Could you not help your sister out and let her use your phone to call apple?never chew the umbilical cord!!0 -
Do yourself a favour and get a 21" iMac, you will never look back. Get it from John Lewis for the free extended warranty. Dump that windows junk and free your soul!
Really? :rotfl:
The cheapest 21" iMac has:
a worse processor
half the hard drive space (a quarter compared to the Zoostorm)
no extra RAM (in fact, 4gb less than the Zoostorm)
no DVD drive?!
an unfamiliar OS
Finally, it is an all-in-one, not a desktop
And all of this for only three times the price! What a bargain...
Even if I assume that you misread my post saying that the original 3 I posted were stretching the budget (at less than half the price of the iMac), I fail to see how an iMac is worth such an extortionate amount of money.
Thanks, but I think I'll pass.0 -

Cheers.
Exactly the sort of advice I was looking for. :beer:0 -

again...no point reasoning with people who think windows desktop pc's are quality....please go ahead and buy one of the 3 pieces of crap you mentioned, it reminds me how 90% of the general public are no more intelligent than pond life....
maybe if you looked at the overall picture......the design, the screen, the OS which would make hardware half as powerful run twice as fast one of those windows pc's you would get it...
then again, you probably have an android phone and sit and sneer at others that have an iphone......again, too thick to be reasoned with.0 -

Firstly, read the whole thread. People have already explained the disadvantages of the three original computers, and I have now asked for advice on the two further computers I posted.
Yes, I will look at the overall picture. The screen, however good it may be, is too small and, being an all in one, I have no way to change it. Yes, it may have a brilliant contrast rating, high def stuff and so on, but if you had read the opening post then you would know that this doesn't matter to me as I won't be doing any serious gaming etc.
The design, I don't care about. If two computers are identical in every other way I will go for the better looking one, but I will not pay extra for design, the money can be spent better elsewhere.
As for the OS, read this.
For the things I will be doing lots of (browser surfing, word docs etc), the Mac's OS will be no faster than windows. Add to this a better processor and the windows machine will be faster.
Plus the added benefits of a DVD drive and a larger hard drive in the windows PCs for a third of the price and I think I know which one I'll be getting.
And funnily enough, I do have an android phone, but I don't care what others buy. Apple products do have a place on the market; to think they didn't would be foolish. But to recommend an apple product to someone whose needs would be fulfilled more sufficiently by a windows product would be more foolish.
Alas, I believe it is you who is "too thick to be reasoned with."0 -
Have you looked on Dell Outlet - they sometimes have free delivery offers too. Always being restocked so it's potluck but normally there's a bargain or two. I've never had any problem with Dell support - if they make you jump thro hoops, well all phone support does, got to be sure it's not a user error!0
