the only way you will ever get a decent spec pc, without been charged silly money for one, is to build your own, that may sound daunting but its nothing to be scared of.

id certainly not buy any of the above rubbish, and my god whatever you do do not buy from them charlatans currys lol, what budget do you have?

I tried looking at building my own with similar specs to the above computers and before I'd added the case or OS I was over £400. Add in Windows 8 and a case and it'd be more like £500. Seems pointless to me when I can get a ready made one complete with a monitor, mouse, keyboard etc for £500 from Currys. Am I just using expensive parts?

As for budget, not got a strict budget but I don't really want to be buying anything much more than the 3 I posted, but the lower the better.

Thanks Bedsit Bob, I tried to have a look at that one from Asda but the website is being weird, and won't show me the computer, only a generic "asda" page with no information.

    Cheers for that Bedsit Bob.

I have also found this one:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lenovo-H535s-Desktop-A8-6500-Windows/dp/B00LM9T8RE/ref=sr_1_7?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1419787011&sr=1-7&keywords=lenovo

It seems to have similar specs to the asda one, but with a better processor. Any thoughts?

EDIT: The 8gb one, not the 6gb.
  • Have you noticed that, in exchange for the extra 2GB of RAM, you are trading off a 4.1Ghz processor, for a 3.7Ghz one?

Not that the lower processor speed will make much difference, given your earlier statement of intended use, but something you should be aware of.

I did notice that, but according to CPU-world, the slower processor still has slightly better performance. I therefore guessed that coupled with more RAM would make the 8GB model a better PC overall. Does it not work this way?

Alternatively, what about this one, which if you take in to account the price of the monitor should work out at a similar price?

Do yourself a favour and get a 21" iMac, you will never look back. Get it from John Lewis for the free extended warranty. Dump that windows junk and free your soul!

You're comparing overpriced apples with well-priced, efficient pears.

Have to admire Apples marketing/business strategy though. Keep producing multiple generations of something that is more or less unaltered. Then sit back and watch as those with too much money and too little sense throw all their money at them :)

Let me know when you wake up and appreciate a real computer/OS....one that doesn't require 50 updates before you can use it.
