Hi all,

Just bought a car from Car Giant and met a very friendly guy that went through everything with us.

He was saying that I know my stuff and there are vacancies atm, I'm not looking for Sales work but my brother is, anyone know what sort of commission they make on car sales?? I know they get around 20k p/a basic salary.

Cheers!

  • Normally its basic wage but something like £50 per car.

Car sales is usually a 6 day week.
  • You'll probably get extra commission on all the add on sales too as well as finance.

Plus commission for recruiting additional sales staff ;)
Who then provide a whole new list of friends, family and contacts who become "prospects" that can be contacted.....Ah the joy of sales and marketing.

I would be surprised if their basic was as high as £20K but i could be wrong.

Not sure it would be somewhere i'd like to work. I would think its high pressure in terms of targets and frantic - hence why they're probably always on the lookout for people

EDIT : Just had a look there online and they've one sales job in White City, London on there and its showing £20K basic and £35K OTE.

I'd say outside of London you'd be looking at £15K basic and £25-30K OTE.

When I bought from CG, there was a big push on finance/GAP/warranty.

    It is a Mercedes C200 2.2 CDI - 2010 (60).

I didn't Finance, or go for the GAP Insurance but I did take out the AA Warranty for 3 years at £899, I checked and I have a right to cancel after 14 days if need be, it gives me some time to look around.

Is it worth taking out this Warranty at all? I just took it out now just to be on the safe side, but can cancel within 14 days, what other alternatives should I be getting quotes at?

Your advice would be appreciated, thanks all.

Id cancel that right away. Not worth the paper it's written on, same for all 'aftermarket' warrenties. Anything expensive likely to fail will be wear and tear so they can wriggle out of paying a claim.

To be specific it's called AA Gold Warranty I think, got the papers together upstairs. Car Giant used to have a Platinum cover, which you couldn't transfer to another name or another car but with the Gold that's the incentive.

So, what do you think I should substitute it with that's more worth while? Do I even need this kind of warranty at all?

What are some reliable car insurance companies/plan atm that I should be getting quotes at? The car will have 2 drivers on it. Insurance companies/plans that cover the right things.

Also, we've never had an Auto before, and unfortunately don't have any mechanic friends to run a free check up/test on the car, what things should I be checking now or every now and then?

    Thanks all.

It was funny, I said that I'd take it and run a search at home and cancel if I have to, and he said when I do I won't cancel it because of good it is ha ha.
