Car Giant - Merc C200 Maintenance/Warranty

A diesel seems an odd choice for that sort of use.
We had a Mercedes before it was a C180 Kompressor 1.8 and we found ourselves topping up Petrol quite often, so after keeping that Merc for 6 months I sold it on GumTree for £250 less than I bought it for. Because I didn't want to rush into anything I bought a small hatchback for under £1,000 and used that for a few months, recently sold that as well for a good price to a 19yr old kid and on the weekend picked up this Merc on sale hopefully fuel consumption will be decent on this seeing as it's got a bigger engine and it's Diesel, also NOT Kompressor.
It's got a Sport mode but I won't be using that much, maybe try it out here and there, but will leave it on Economy.
it was the fact that modern diesels don't like being used for short runs that was the basis of my comment. It can give rise to a number of expensive problems.
Also most people would consider 12,000 miles per annum to be too few to make diesel an economical choice over petrol.0 -

We probably should've looked at some of the Petrol CGI's instead of the CDI's, but ah well, maybe in a year or two.
If we'd like to change from Mercedes to another in a year or two I reckon I'll be going for an Audi, A4 or something similar.
For now, I will get the AA Warranty refunded and keep the £899 in an account somewhere just for safety. You worry me with 'rise to a number of expensive problems', anyway to avoid this with regular checks of certain things or?0 -
Just bought a car from Car Giant and met a very friendly guy that went through everything with us.
He was saying that I know my stuff and there are vacancies atm
Of course he was friendly, he was a good salesman making money of you
Did you over pay for the car as well as the warranty?0 -

Best way to avoid them is to buy a petrol, or start doing a lot more miles. You need to be doing at least one prolonged (15mins+) run at motorway speeds a week to keep the DPF clean, and the car needs to always be run up to full temperature (assume 5-6miles+) in order to keep EGR and manifold etc in good order.0 -

Ha ha! I believe I got a pretty decent deal for the car, in fact it wasn't even ready when I got there. I had seen it on the website and queried them about it and they took 45 minutes to bring it out I test drove it twice and whilst waiting ran a search for similar spec Mercedes on Auto Trader, Gum Tree ect.. and couldn't find anything better for my £11k. The car has had all it's servicing, 75k mileage, full leather interior, couldn't find anything near for the money I was getting this car for, I was to first to see it and the first to make the purchase.
I'm going to be getting the warranty refunded.0 -

Thanks. I reckon I should be alright, I drive into work every morning about a 7 mile journey and I don't hold back whilst driving also.
I do the occasional long journey into places like Norfolk, Northampton ect.. once a month, which are about 50-100 mile journeys.
And on the weekends it's 10+ mile journeys to family/relatives sometimes, or the big Asda or Costco.0 -

Without a licence darkmatter?Hi all,
I've booked my theory and it's in 2 weeks time.
I'm on Android and was wondering if someone could recommend an app that's quite precise and up to date with it's questions?
I'm aware some apps have very outdated questions which aren't very likely to come up in the test?
If someone could advise on what's the best apps to practice with, even if I have to pay a few quid I don't mind, previous experience with it helps plenty too.
Cheers!0 -

I was getting suspicious but I think you've nailed it. I do believe that OddballJamie now owes you an imaginary vehicle of your choice.0 -
It could explain why he has a new car every week.
Each one gets seized for no licence.0 -
In previous posts in relation to Motoring I was referring to 'I' but the advice was actually for my Dad/Brother.
We have only the one car, bought from Car Giant.
I'll add some more pics when we get it back, currently having some work done back at Car Giant after I noticed a few mechanical faults/noises.
Apparently they are changing..
Following our telephone conversation, we currently have the following parts on order; front and rear discs and pads, front and rear shock absorbers, top mounts and front drop links.
We bought the car 2 weeks ago, reported the problem after a week, we dropped it off on Tuesday and expect it back by Saturday or today even.0
