I have a HSBC account and the other day the little "secure key" stupid pinpad thing decided to fail on me So i pops into the local branch they gave me new pinpad- but I have to phone up to get an activaction code for it

Now Im actually quite hard of hearing and find phone calls difficult ( can lip read very well ) so it makes it extremely awkward- however basically the banks attititude was "Well if you want to get this sorted then you msut call- no alternative" Surely there has to be another way? Had similar issue last year when my bank card stolen and my daughter had to ring to pretend to be me

Does anyone know any other bank that are not going to just point you to an inbranch phone if you need help?

Can you use a textphone? HSBC, like other banks, offer special numbers for hearing impaired people.

Never used one ever Manage perfectly well in all other areas of my life I did tell the HSBC customer advisor about my hearing issues (years ago)and they said would be a note on my account However i used to be able to actually talk to people in branch and they used to do the phone calls if necessary- now just "Go to phone in that corner"

Its not just people with hearing problemns either- lots of people have phobias about using the phone , are they also not entitled to services due to non usage of phone

I'm terrible on the phone, i struggle to hear if they've got any sort of accent and do all Internet banking using my computer.

As has been suggested, you may want to use a textphone if your hearing is that poor.

I see HSBC are also offering Digital Secure Keys on your mobile phone instead of a physical one.

You may also want to tell HSBC about your hearing problems again.

and they do, but the OP can't seem to decide if he's got a hearing problem or not.

says "Im actually quite hard of hearing"

then "Manage perfectly well in all other areas of my life"
The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....
