thanks , the system will work on either a pc (hdmi to vga adaptor) or to my tv , refresh seems ok.
a simple unit would save me buying either another computer or media player ,
edit: the one above is a seller from china , (with a non UK plug ,, illegal to sell in the UK) with a chinease return address , UK seller please , with a UK return system please0 -
You'll always get the people who say you should spend stupid money on gold plated, or whatever cables... Usually they are either trying to sell you something or they got done themselves and don't want to admit it.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Do not buy this HDMI cable.
Unless you need to connect your hose pipe to your tv.0 -

Not strictly true...

The version numbers refer to the chipsets in the devices that HDMI cables plug into.0 -
wongataa is spot on. HDMI cables are either licensed as standard, high speed or not. For high definition (blue ray, 3d etc) ensure you have high speed.
As for the higher priced cables, there is definitely a lot of marketeering going on as a crossover from speaker cable. With speaker cable, an electrical signal is being passed through a conductor to feed an electromagnet to reproduce the sound. The strength and quality of that signal degrades depending on the conductor (copper cable), the length, interference from magnetic fields etc. Hence why the metals used for conducting can make a big difference as well as the type of insulation used.
For HDMI cables, it's a digital signal, so effectively lots of 1's and 0's being passed through that are digitally interpreted at the other end. These don't degrade. They are either received, or not received. Now, what's important, is that some cables experience more loss than others (some 1's or 0's not received). These losses mean the receiving equipment, like your TV, have to fill the gaps which cam lead to a loss in picture or audio quality.
HDMI licensing sets the minimum acceptable loss standards. So while some cables will perform much better than others, as long as you are getting an HDMI licensed product, it shouldn't be detectable at all.
Saying that, both HDMI cables I've received with my SKY boxes have been terrible. Seem to get a static build up that stops the signal over time. I've binned them and swapped to others and it's never happened after that.0 -
Took until post #16 for some sense. Buy £1 cables if you want - price doesn't really matter, but the spec does in this case - I think 3D support was only added in V1.3a of the HDMI standard. If you've got older, it might still work, but if it doesn't you haven't really got a leg to stand on. Latest version of HDMI is 1.4 so that's really what you should be going for, regardless of price (from £1!).0
