Samsung Cancelled Repair - What does this mean?

How do you check WiFi channel settings and those being used ?
Do these settings affect how good a WiFi connection you get ?
Is this automatic or can you adjust settings ?
This is not your thread, but ....
For a Homehub, access it in your browser (http://bthomehub.home/), click on Advanced Settings, login, click the button, click on Wireless, then click the 2.4 GHz Wireless and 5 GHz Wireless links respectively.
If you are using the same channel as other nearby wifi networks then this can affect signal quality and thus speed. Use inSSIDer to check what other nearby wifi networks are set to, then change yours to a quiet(er) channel.0 -
So what did Samsung say?
Samsung say they are not cancelling the repair (they said it was an error, and what they meant to say was that they were suspending all repairs for the Festive season, but recommnencing today, the 29th!)
They said the engineers would continue to look deeper into why exactly the Chromebook wont work on my home network. I mentioned about what you had said regarding USA compliant wifi components, and they said they would get back to me !
I will update when I know more.0 -
I had the Chromebook returned today, marked NO FAULT, which was expected, now that I know it is to do with the US complaint wifi components.
I phoned the engineer who said that the wifi worked ok on their UK system (obviously not BT) and said that the issue was obviously a wifi one that was no concern of theirs (fair enough). He could not offer any further advice other than it would work fine with a cable.
Now, I will be researching on how to get it to work on the BT HomeHub5 2.4gH band, where some of the channels should work.
Thanks to everyone who posted, much appreciated.0 -
Well....none the wiser as to why this has happened.
Earlier today I decided to try and connect it. 2 hours of nothing, failed connections, ooops errors etc, and I had still not connected to the internet.
I tried it again just 10 mins ago as a last ditched attempt, and without doing anything different, it connected for the very first time on my home network and I accessed my Google account.
I have no idea why this has happened, and none the wiser why it did not connect in the first place all those weeks ago !
Again, many thanks to everyone for all the assistance given , it is very much appreciated.0 -
Check post #32 above for info on checking (and changing) the wifi channels. (Instructions are for HH4 but I suspect the HH5 will be the same).0

I believe your BT homehub may automatically switch which channel it is using, if it senses there is a lot of traffic from neighbours' WiFi on its current channel.
So it's possible that your homehub has now picked a channel that is also valid in the USA, and therefore the Chromebook can use it.
However it is also possible that the homehub will pick a different channel tomorrow and it will stop working again.
Edit: As suggested above, you should go into the Homehub to see which channels it's using.
My guess is it will say 'Automatic' or 'Smart Wireless' or something like that; if so that also means it could stop working again.0 -

Yes, you are correct, the 2.4GHz channel went from 11 to 6 and the 5GHz channel went from 44 to 48.
At least I know what channels work !
