It's been explained already, Christmas Day is a "Public Holiday".

JSA is not pay, it is subsistence benefit to cover basic living costs.

7 day, 24 hour, every minute, every second job seeking is not a requirement.

It is not based on your opinion, but on law, written guidance, case law & what is "reasonable".

If you're so keen on the rules and laws of typical employment applying to JSA then maybe JSA needs to be paid at NMW

No? Your logic doesn't extend that far? Now, there's a surprise.

Think your argument through before you spew it out your mouth.

its is not my opinion that JSA is paid over 7 days that's a fact (verified by the DWP themselves) and if a person is paid over 7 days they should be engaged in the activity they are paid to do during the days they paid to do it.

People are given money to job seek that's why its called Job Seekers allowance.

Everyone I have spoken to over the last couple of days have Christmas Day and Boxing Day built into their holiday entitlement therefore if they have accrued 21 days 2 days are taken out of that for these days Do job seekers have to use 2 days of their holiday entitlement for the Christmas period I suspect the answer is no

Notice that it's not called Jobseekers 24/7 allowance. Do you work seven days a week? Shouldn't you be giving 2 days pay a week back to your employer?

I understand now. You're just a very silly person who doesn't understand logic.

That's what happen when you miss too many days at primary school.

If I was paid for 7 days then yes I would have to work I wouldn't however take money to work for 7 days a week and only work 5 which is what job seekers do if they don't job seek for 7 days yet expect to be paid for the 7 days

Really? in that case I will ring my boss on Monday and tell her she is not being logical in expecting me to work the 5 days that I am being paid to work and that I only want to work for 4 of them, ta for the heads up

It is highly illogical to most people to job search on Christmas Day. No one will be looking at CVs on Christmas Day! I have just had to go back on Job Seekers on the 20th as my job finished. (still not signed on yet as surprise the Job Centre staff are on holiday). If I emailed my industry contacts on Christmas Day or phoned them I would probably get ignored or !!!! them off!

My plan of action is to update my CV, update the various talent/employer databases, make a list of contacts and potential employers. Then email them when I know they're back to work.

I didn't job search Christmas Day or Boxing Day, or even Christmas Eve. Instead I done some on the 21st-23rd and today. Christmas is a time to relax not worry about job searching, as long as you meet the requirements of however many jobs per week to apply for, then that should be fine.

Everyone needs time off, even people who are unemployed, as they need to spend time with their family, be it parents, siblings or kids who are in school.

I worked 13 hours on Christmas day so yes, maybe people without jobs should spend time looking for one.

JSA is paid over 7 days because people need money to LIVE ON 7 days a week !

It would be a bit silly to miss out weekends so they had no money for Sat/Sun.

JSA is a benefit to cover basic Living Expenses.
It is not pay or employment with employment rights.

Lot of employed have bank holidays in addition to employment holiday entitlement.

Christmas Day is a Public Holiday, look it up, understand & Educate yourself !

Jobseekers are allowed far less holiday than employed, most never have a holiday.

The fact you're in a job where employment rights have been eroded is your problem, don't blame others !

    You're employed with employment rights.

You've obviously been compensated for working a Public Holiday.

Post your employment contract, so we can see what what YOU agreed to & what YOU are being paid.

I think you are the one who needs to educate yourself this is info from CAB and the Governments own website

Time off work on bank and public holidays

Although many workers are given time off work on bank and public holidays, your employer is not required by law to allow you time off work on these days. And if they do give you the time off, they do not have to pay you for this time off. However, your contract of employment may give you the right to time off work on bank and public holidays. If so, it will also specify whether this time off will be paid or not.

If your employer gives you bank or public holidays off, they will count towards your statutory holiday unless your employment contract specifically says that you get bank or public holidays on top of your statutory holiday

And no JSA is not a benefit to cover basic living expenses if it were there would be no requirement to look for a job to be entitled to it, and no sanctions for not job seeking. So It may not be 'pay' but there are conditions attached

Now you will have to excuse me its nearly midnight and I have to go to work tomorrow, of course I would much rather doss around all day and do f all, BUT problem is my employer is paying me to work so I am honour bound to fulfil my obligations and go in.
