What is the point of going out if you are unwell - you are only going to feel worse, and spend money on having an awful night. I don't blame your friend for cancelling it.

Same for the being tired from work excuse - it's not an excuse, its a reason. No point in going out if you aren't going to enjoy yourself and bring everyone else on a downer
