info: Welcome to Vodafone! You will now be connected with a service adviser. Your approximate wait time is 0 minute(s) and 2 seconds. . We’re looking forward to assisting you today.

info: You are now connected with Elliot.

Elliot: Hello, you're chatting with Elliot, one of Vodafone's online customer service specialists. How may I help you today?

*****: If I change my contract phone (which has a standard size sim) to an iphone (which I believe is a nano sim) how long will the change over take?

Elliot: Hello *****.

Elliot: Do you already have the iPhone that you are referring? OR are you looking to order one?

*****: I'm thinking of changing to an iphone 5s

Elliot: Do you already have this phone with you?

*****: I'm thinking of changing to an iphone 5s...I havent got it yet...I'm worried about how long it might take to swap the sims as I dont want to be left without a phone over Christmas

Elliot: Oh, okay.

Elliot: Let me tell you how it's going to work.

Elliot: The standard SIM activation time is 2-24 hours. However, mostly as I have seen the new SIM starts working in 15-20 minutes.

Elliot: The time that it takes is for the delivery of the handset and SIM card. So, that's why I was asking if you already got it.

*****: so if I change to iphone 5s, I can expected to be up and running in no more than 24hrs?

Elliot: Yes, indeed. In fact that's the maximum time that I have told you.

Elliot: Mostly, SIM swaps are completed in 15-20 minutes. So, provided that you've the phone and SIM both available, you can have the phone ready to use on the same day.

*****: can there be complications and it take longer than 24hrs, and what can I do to make sure it wouldn't happen over Christmas, if there was a problem, would I be able to contact someone?

Elliot: I don't think so there should be any complications.

Elliot: And, yes you can always contact us if you need any help.

Elliot: Live chat service will be available 24x7 for your assistance.

Elliot: We are open on Christmas too.

*****: thank you Elliot, you've been very helpful, Merry Christmas

info: A copy of this chat conversation will be sent to********@****.com at the end of this chat.

if it works in 20mins (even 24hrs) it will be a Christmas miracle...

Sim via Post fast delivery XMas maybe .
  • Not sure what your problem is, it takes less than 10 mins to swap sims on Vodafone when done online. My new micro-sim arrived in 2 days but this was last week. If its that urgent you can always pop into your local VF branch and get one from there. I've gone from nano sim to micro sim and back in recent days and it was done in a matter of mins on each occasion.

I popped into the shop and they swapped my sim and advised leave it turned off for 20 mins. Turned it on and it was all working :)

Not sure why you're so cynical before trying it.
  • Took 5 minutes last month..

sim swap, shop assistance (non existant) online forums (Vodafone eForum), online chat, calling Vodafone, even Lee on here....still waiting...between sims lost in post...yeah I believe that, calls not returned....basically I'm cynical...because Vodafone have yet to do what they were contracted to do and if it all runs as smoothly as some of the VF fans on here reckon.....something is seriously wrong...so you would expect after a month to get things sorted....not still spout the lies on the online chat....

Dude instead of ranting, just pop into your local VF shop to pickup a sim and do the sim swap online. No need to create drama when its such a simple thing to do...

@baby frogmella.....thats part of the problem....called into the VF shop and the numpty that works there said there's nothing he could do....which VF are now aware of in the letter of complaint...."simple thing to do"... not for someone on the shop floor so it seems.....

and this is not so much of a rant as its more of a way to spread the word that Vodafone are rubbish at solving customer problems and the fact that MSE appears high in search engines means when prospective customers search for "vodafone problems"....this thread will start to appear high in the search results....and if you think this is a "rant"....well maybe you could be right....but I'd be curious to see how you feel if like me you were still waiting for an answer to a question I posed over 3 months ago about the mess they made with my online web purchase....now an additional problem of a "sim swap" that has taken a month....check other threads here...when "sim swaps" go wrong they can take ages to rectify.

It's very very difficult to understand what your issue is, as most of your posts are garbled rants with very little explanation or detail.
You seem to be complaining about a SIM swap, so I'm not sure why you have posted a link to an earlier thread relating to an order they screwed up - how is that relevant?
When you say "called into the VF shop and the numpty that works there said there's nothing he could do", what are you referring to?? A SIM swap?

Why on earth are you concerned what caused the problem ?
Seems to me Lee solved the problem for you if I'm not mistaken, whilst they don't know what caused it you are wasting valuable resources trying to find the cause, let them get on with solving other peoples problems instead of making up stories such as above and wasting everyone's time!
It's not just about the money
  • concerned about the problem?....you would think they would be concerned about it as well and want to get to the bottom of it as I've now read posts on forums similar to what happened me....as for making up stories Silk...what part do you not believe?....as for Vodafone sorting problems...seems they just make things right....which isn't the same as sorting problems....but I suppose you know that

but again as per the norm "Silk"....you never seem to attempt to address the concerns or understand the whys and wherefores.....you don't happen to work for Vodafone....oh...and they said they would come back to me....

Merry Christmas....want a mobile provider?....choose anyone rather than Vodafone....
