Like I said in my earlier post, VED is now just some arbitrary figure the government likes to play about with in the name of green taxes.

Do you agree that it's silly to charge VED on cyclists whilst there are several motorised vehicles that aren't required to pay it?

I would definitely make use of laybys if I was the one on the bike.

Have you tried cycling on the roads here? You seem to have no idea how dangerous it is. Why would the cyclist have to make space, they just want to enjoy the road and be healthy at the same time. :xmassmile

I feel safer jumping fleets of stairs, or cycling along walls doing downhill etc with no helmet on than i do cycling on the roads with a helmet on.

With the former i'm in full control of what happens to me, but the latter i need to depend on other people not to injure me and sadly, there are a lot of poor drivers out there.

Most cyclists argue against road tax, registration and compulsory insurance for different reasons than you would imagine.

Yes, cost would be an issue. I have 8 bikes in the garage at the moment. Even at £100 extra per bike per year, that would be a burden.
But if I had to, I'd modify my bike stock and pay up, because cycling is vital to me.

The big issue for most regular cyclists is that all of these additional barriers would put people off cycling. In terms of cost to the exchequer from health, fitness and positivity dividend it would be a very foolish concept to contemplate.
Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.

Most informed cyclists don't argue against road tax. They simply state it does not exist. Many motorists wrongly believe they fund the roads through road tax and resent cyclist using what they think motorists have paid for.

I hate that sort of cyclist as well.
