And don't get me started on the idiots who cycle at night with dark clothes and no lights...

You see, this is the problem...... You don't see a person, you see "cyclist".
    They're not all the same.

Bringing out the cliches only re-enforces what I said in my last post.

I had one jump out in front me as I was stopping at a give way line, he was riding down the footpath at 7am with no lights on essentially an unlit road and jumped from the kerb into my path, he was about 40 years old.
He was what I call a bloke on a bike shaped object (BSO).

When I saw another cyclist further down the road, I didn't for one second assume him the same as the guy previously.

Motorists should give a cyclist as much space as they would when overtaking a car.

Why is it that most motorists don't do that?

Because they are overtaking a cycle not a car.
    Any more daft questions ?

Speaking as one of the motorists who does do that I'd also suggest that a (thougtful) slow motorist - tractors are generally good at this - will usually pull over and allow a building queue to pass occasionally. I've never yet seen a cyclist do that - even when all they need to do is ride through a layby without slowing.

That doesn't excuse poor driving, but neither does poor driving excuse poor cycling.

I used to do that..... Until I realised the connection with the vast numbers of punctures I was getting AND of course the trouble getting back into the road with cars trying to squeeze past.

More holes in this rant than any level of twaddle I have ever read on here (and i read some of Darkmatters rubbish!)

When you say "some drink and drive too" are you referring to motorists or cyclists? I assume motorists (in line with your other twaddle).

So a cyclist never drinks and rides then? :rotfl:

Well there will be no figures for that because, as traffic officer Brat will be happy to confirm, a cyclist is not required to provide a specimen of breath, even when he/she has been involved in a RTC.

    Precisely my point....
Life isn't about the number of breaths we take, but the moments that take our breath away. Like choking....

In central London the other day whilst I was sat at lights one came up my nearside and sat in front of the nearside of the lorry. Neither me or passenger could see him. As I moved off I thought I'd hit him, but he didn't look round so guess not. Be my fault no doubt.
Others that come up your inside when you're indicating left, just death wish pratts.
I don't mind them on the whole, let them get on with it.
Each cyclist is a car that's not in front of you. Jump lights if it's safe, then they're further down the road when you get going.
Just wish they accounted for how vulnerable they are, and didn't rely on others for their safety.

As already said, it's the militant ones that are the worst, with their daft little helmet cams, wavy hands and potty mouths. These driver baiting vigilantes deserve all they get.

I have read another article, at least something is being done in some areas.

I've never seen the point of giving cyclists as much space as a car when overtaking them. I also get v confused when cars indicate when they overtake a cyclist. I believe there are pros and cons for that. Cyclist in a rural area yesterday on my commute home, no front light. I saw him on a t-junction, kamikaze.

I was on a 60 road with a car up ahead, turned out to be 2 cyclists abreast a few foot apart both with the same rear light. Caught up much quicker than I expected to!
Then there's others with a really bright flashing front light, so you can't see f-ck all as you're dazzled.
  • Cyclists terrify me, even if they are being perfectly sensible, because I know that a) primarily, they would come off worst in any collision and b) secondly, even if one swerved out in front of me, I would get the blame if there was a resulting collision. :(

The thought of someone drinking and in charge of any kind of vehicle is horrendous.
