Closest is almost 22.5 miles from home, in a town I've never been anywere near - and not really viable for a visit even if the website showed promise. Only 11 necklaces showing up on there, none of which are anything I'd pick, and prices still more than I wanted to spendCheryl0 -
Hi all...
Still snowing and cold here so woke up with a horrid head cold and swollen glands. Have bought 1st defence and actifed so hopefully will only feel rubbish tomorrow then clear. Unfortunately I have big red nice and top lip etc with blowing nose and heavy eyes... My colleague are so kind to point it out!! Lol!
I need to find a few jumpers I like to keep me cosy at work. Not enough cosy clothes... Maybe I just need to do ironing...
Looking forward to holidays Friday off then off for a week & half... Bliss!! OH only off for 3,days the second week so I have week of lazy days and pampering and reading I've decided... Work 3 weeks at a time roughly before a day off so looking forward to the rest
Glad everyone s continuing the pampering. I have remembered my perfume spray this morning at least so keeping it up even on small levels.
Looking forward to getting stuck into the book you have been taking LL, I never seem to quite get on top of all the tidying and de cluttering to looking forward to some reading on subject, who knows that might even fill up my week off lol0 -
Evening everyone, and what a lovely relaxing one its been, while sorting out my computer room I came across a foot spa i'd forgotten all about, so put it to do use tonight, given my feet a good soaking with warm water and foot wash, a good seeing too with a ped-egg, then gave them 5 lashings of moisturiser, couldn't believe how dry they really were. Topped off with some coffee coloured nail varnish. I have about 12 plus nail varnishes which I never use as DD does my finger nails with shellac, so decided i'm going to try them all on my toes nails, get rid of what I don't like, or has gone lumpy and use the others
My feet feel wonderfully smooth.Loving life to the full, just need purse full too

Hi all
Welcome to the thread Justamum and EllsbelYesterday I also went with my Mum and maid of honour wedding dress shopping and I found my dress :j:D I tried every fit, type, sleeves, strapless, different necklines, backs EVERYTHING!!! And I picked my dress which is a beautiful princess dress and I have a cathedral veil which sits beautifully on the train. I will be going back in a couple of weeks to have another fitting and pick my tiara and things!!!!
Congratulations, how exciting
I have been keeping up with my fabbing - just buffed my nails as I don't really want to paint them. I may paint my toe nails tomorrow though as working from home so plenty of time for them to dry!
I need to get some new trousers for work. I have three pairs currently - one pair I can wear with heels but the hems have dropped and the zip is broken (half repaired). The other two are too short for heels and if I'm honest, my flat boots too. All three pairs are baggy on the bum and thighs because of the weight I've lost.
The dilemma I have is: as I am not customer facing, do I wait until I have lost more weight to buy new trousers? Also I would want longer to wear with heels but I don't have any to wear over winter. I already have these in red and they are so comfortable that I'm leaning towards getting them in the black too:

But they are pricey. Maybe I will settle for something from Tesco/Asda instead!0 -
Cw18 - its worth a look in your local CS shops for costume jewellery. I know my local BHF does new stuff too. I've picked up some nice pieces in Matalan & even Superdrug do some. It certainly doesn't need to be expensive to look good.
Justamum - do you know what colours suit you best? Maybe choose some classic basic trousers/skirts depending on what is comfortable for you & then build on that. I am with you on the classic look but do try to work in some colour too. I was told years ago that if you see something you like that will go with three things you already have
then its a good buy.
DH & I had a friends funeral to go to todaybut I did take more care with my clothes & make up & a couple of people said I looked nice. Gym in the morning but perfume will be applied!
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
Had wondered about charity shops, but I only have 2 I can get into regularly and haven't ever seen in either of those. I guess I'll just have to check out others when I'm further away from home, but it's not often I venture into a different town any more (too much temptation to spend money I can't afford to spend!)
Matalan's another that's too far from home to be worth a trip - and not near anywhere else I ever go to. Passed a S'drugs today - didn't realise they sold anyNever mind, I'll be back there in the next week to try different contact lenses so can check them out then

Thanks for the link. I'd never heard of them, and having checked store locations I'm not surprised I hadn't

I don't wear costume jewellery really but what about Primark?I need to get some new trousers for work. I have three pairs currently - one pair I can wear with heels but the hems have dropped and the zip is broken (half repaired). The other two are too short for heels and if I'm honest, my flat boots too. All three pairs are baggy on the bum and thighs because of the weight I've lost.

I think if you know they're comfortable I'd buy the boots. If you buy them ASAP you'll get loads of wear out of them this season and maybe next. If you work out cost per wear they'll be worth it. You'll still be wearing them when the Asda ones are in the bin!
I'd buy just one pair of new trousers that fit with your boots and just wash and wear until you reach the weight you want. In an emergency you could always wear one of the current pairs.
That's my take.;)0 -
Costume jewellery - Sainsburys, ASDA, Primark, market stalls, jumble sales, church coffee mornings etc often have table top sales, carboots, school or village fetes ....
.I've picked up bits and pieces from all of the above - you just have to keep browsing. I can go months without seeing anything and then just this week I ve picked up two really nice necklaces from charity shops for just £1 each.
I also make a few bits of jewellery - beaded necklaces are an absolute doddle. You can canabalise old necklaces, broken pieces of jewellery, any old bits and bobs. Once family and friends know you are making your own they will often donate their old unloved or broken bits.
You don't need any fancy equipment, in fact if you are using string or thin leather you don't need anything, just make the necklace long enough to slip over your head without fasteners, although fasteners are easy enough. You can even use long shoelaces if you use beads with a large enough hole. then just cut off the metal strips and tie with a good knot. Seal the knot with clear nail varnish to stop it fraying or coming undone.
If you want to use metal chains, then all you need is a couple of small pliers, one of which will cut through metal. You don't need special jewellery making pliers, just cheap ones from somewhere like Wilkinsons or B&M.
Justamum asked about good places for clothes. I didn't realise you were on the IOW - how lovely. I went once years ago and thought it was beautiful. I don't know about shopping opportunities there.
Oddly enough just recently I have discovered that a lot of garden centres sell clothes, some are rather expensive at full price but then have really good sales - often at quite bizarre times so it's often worth a look.
One of the garden centres near me has a concession for Edinburgh Woolllen Mill. They are not high fashion but are very good for classics and they are usually very good quality. they often have half price offers which makes them very good value.
I often do,quite well in small independent dress shops but they are few and far between nowadays.
As our regulars know from my previous rants :rotfl: I'm really not a fan of the high street or the big out of town shopping malls. I think a lot of the merchandise is overpriced tat and all the shops are just clones of each other. All selling virtually identical clotheS.
The once mighty M&S has gone downhill, whilst I always felt that BHS is M&S,s plainer dowdy sister. as for Next I havent bought anything from them since the 90's. They used to do Good tailoring then and I used to buy a lot of suits from there when I was Corporate Woman but now their office wear just looks cheap and nasty! And yet their menswear isn't bad at all. DS2 recently bought a half decent suit from there and he has had a few nice shirts from M&S.
A lot of the high street chains seem to manage reasonable menswear so why are women so badly served. Grrrr - makes me cross. Don't they want my money. :rotfl:
I admit I can be quite fussy and difficult to please but I'm not prepared to spend good money on something I don't even like. So for me charity shops or newly new shops are often my preferred choice., unless I can find a nice little indie.
Where I live - Derbyshire - used to be at the heart of the textile industry and we used to have the most amazing factory shops. Sadly most of the factories are gone now and the shops too of course.
Even our markets aren't what they were, the stalls just sell nasty tat now and it's not even cheap tat any more.......:rotfl:
I keep threatening to get the sewing machine out but there aren't even any decent fabric stalls left. Even "Tweed Tony" has gone.....he sold the most amazing tweeds and woollen fabrics.
No wonder I keep my clothes for years.:o0
