Hear hear - and i loved your stories of your working life.
heres one more just for a laugh......
when the children wre small I was a sahm. We hit a bit if a rough patch money wise so feeling guilty and wanting to help I decided to get a part time job. My OH shook his head when I told him my plan but said nothing.
Anyway I got a job as a waitress in a very smart restaurant.
The first night was an absolute disaster. I was so nervous - I tend to be a bit clumsy at the best of times but my nerves just turned me into a complete klutz.
I burned myself, I dropped plates, I fell over, I spilt food over people, i bumped into people, I mixed up the orders - it was a shambles.. At first the customers were furious - then they started to see the funny side and started laughing and teasing me......
At the end of the eve jng the manager sat me down and asked me what I thought. I said I was very sorry but I didn't really think I was cut out for being a waitress. He just grinned and said "thank god for that, I though I was going have to sack you, the customers love you I wouldn't be able to afford the bill for,the breakages".
So my waitressing career lasted just one night.:D
Physio today And then a little mooch......
Without wishing to sound smug, I'm feeling very happy and content with life at the moment. Ive definitely come out of that long dark tunnel at last.0 -
Just worked out its 10 weeks on Saturday till my holiday.
I would like to lose a stone. fingers crossed.....I should be able to do it.0 -

That's not smug at all. You've faced up to and come through some very stressful events in the last few weeks so great you're seeing the light at last!
Keep telling us how the healthy eating is going. I know we don't set out to be accountable on here but I always find if I've posted my intentions/plans I try to stick with them.
It's a ghastly wet morning here. I'm off to an 'At Home' tea party to celebrate a friend's anniversary this afternoon. I haven't washed my hair which I'll probably regret but if it was freshly done it's more susceptible to the dampness. Leaving what to wear until the last minute. My friend is a very 'proper' lady and I should wear a dress rather than trousers but don't want cold legs. Oh decisions!!!:rotfl:0 -
Thanks for all the encouragement on further education; it's definitely something I'm going to look into properly:)
I love the sound of the Peak District break, indie, have a lovely time
The way you're going, LL, that stone weight loss is more than "doable"
Have decided not to weigh myself for a while but to monitor my progress by my clothes; I tend to get too complacent when I see a decent loss on the scales and start factoring in too many treats!!
Likewise, if I don't see them going down quickly enough I get discouraged, so I'm going to see if I get better, longer term results by shunning the scales for a while:)
I know just what you mean about newly washed hair being less damp proof, maman! Mine's the same.
I had a coffee date yesterday and went along in fairly nice, smart casual outfit, even accessorised with some of my rarely worn costume jewellery, hair washed, dried and straightened so it looked nice and sleek ..... and the skies opened just as I exited the car to walk up and meet her! My pretty, trendy umbrella that I'd brought instead of my trusty sturdy one, blew inside out at the first puff of wind, and I was soaked to the skin by the time I reached the coffee shop! A glance in my driver's mirror when I got back in the car afterwards confirmed that my rain-soaked hair had dried into a frizzy mess - anyone remember Worzel Gummidge?:rotfl: oh well - I tried!!
Off to the Theatre tonight so need to find something suitable to wear. I could do with some new tops actually but I'll wait to lose a bit of weight first I think.
I'm also going to book a hair appointment for next week; it's overdue a cut and I'm not too happy with the last lot of highlights I had. Think I'll try a different salon next time.
Have a good day all x0 -
Morning lovely ladies
Just enjoying a quick catch up of all your posts - a good way to start the day with a smile on my face.
Life has continued to be hectic for me with my Mum going back into hospital. My time is spent working, visiting hospital, trying to find her a nice residential home as it's now been agreed by everyone including her that she won't manage at home, and clearing/decorating her very smokey bungalow
Not much fabbing other that the usual but I am hoping things will be more sorted in September. Then I plan to go back to yoga, get my hair cut and have a bit if work done on my teeth. Would like to add a bit of fun in here too.
Although I don't have time right now to reply to everyone I am reading, enjoying and being inspired by all your posts.Crazy clothes challenge 2017 - 30/3000 -
Good morning lovely ladies
Rowan - glad to hear that things are beginning to sort themselves out
It's hard I know but at least your mum is being practical and is not giving you a hard time about having to go in care. My mum was terribly distressed - she was ok with me - but she really was quite horrible to dad and my sister. every time they visited she accused them of "dumping" her. It was very upsetting. The guilt you feel is bad enough without emotional blackmail.
I hope you manage to find somewhere nice for her. And then yes, take it from "someone who knows;)" try and spend a bit of time on yourself and get your health and well being back onto an even keel.
We've got dads eldest sister (91) and her daughter (my cousin of course) coming over today so we are all going out to lunch. Apt phrase really - because Aunty and Dad are both "out to lunch" bless them - both in the early stages of dementia and both deaf as posts. Makes for some very interesting conversations.......anyway it will be nice to catch up,with my cos. She is 6O and stunning - a dead ringer for Merill Streep.
I'm all bathed and fragrant, hair styled - just got to decide what to wear. Smart casual - It will be a pub lunch. There's a surprisingly cold wind here today and the pub is in a village out in the hilly wilds so a nice warm cardy or jacket will be called for.
Keeeeep fabbing.0 -
Your post sounded very positive ellsbel. Groupon is good for trying out salons if you don't have another one in mind. I never weigh at home, just use my jeans as a guide and check my weight at my SW group every three weeks or so. I know some people just go to the pharmacy. What are you seeing at the theatre?
Sorry to hear your mum is back in hospital rowan but good news that you're all on board about the next step. LL is so right about needing to look after yourself. We need to be strong in these situations (both physically and mentally) and a bit of personal pampering goes a long way to helping.
Enjoy your lunch with your cousin and family LL. I'd go for a jacket if it's cold and choose wisely from the menu;). Eating out can be a minefield when you're trying to lose weight.
I wore a silk dress yesterday with wedges and a cardigan. So pleased I wore the wedges particularly (black patent with open toes to show off my French manicured nails;)) as I was on my feet for hours. The party seemed to divide into those of us who were quite lively and chatty and circulated and others who just sat.
All showered and coiffed this morning as I'm out for a pub meal tonight. I'll probably go for steak and salad but then need extra willpower to have a jacket rather than chips. I love chips.
Painting is all finished in the sitting room and it's looking good. Sofas will be ordered today I think so should come tomorrow but waiting for DH to confirm whether he can be in for delivery as I know I can't be here all day as have hair appointment. When I have an arm cover as a colour guide Ill be off to look for curtains and lampshades and it'll all gradually come together. I haven't decided on the cushion colours yet. I'm thinking maybe a tweed/plaid look. It needs to go with creams. Any ideas?0 -
Good idea re: the groupon deal, maman - I've now found a salon I want to try and I know they sometimes have these deals so I'll have a look before booking:)
Going with a friend to see Hamlet; She booked the tickets ages ago and asked if I fancied it as I love Shakespeare - there's been a heck of a lot of hype about this production over the past week or so, though, so it's got a lot to live up to!! Looking forward to a nice evening out though - going to get ready and head off shortly so we can fit in a bite to eat and drinks beforehand.
Love the sound of plaid to go with cream - I've a friend with cream sofas who has lovely checked cushions and throws in shades of green and rust - looks really nice.
rowan I really hope you find some time to relax soon.
Enjoy your lunch LL
Right - off for a soak and to look out an outfit0 -

Oh WOW!! You lucky lady. Agree it's a load of hype and I think Benedict Cumberbatch looks a bit gormless but good to be part of an occasion.
I remember a production of Hamlet in Cork I went to with a friend. Opening scene with the soldiers patrolling the castle walls. They had the strongest of Irish accents, cloaks wrapped round their heads and effecting shivering and nervousness. We couldn't understand a word they said!! Fortunately the main characters had far better diction and it got better from there on in.
I enjoy Shakespeare too. Last play I saw was Richard 'Victor Meldrew' Wilson in Twelfth Night and although not real Shakespeare, the production of Shakespeare in Love was good too.0 -
