Frugal Frump to Fab - 2015

Maddiemay - your home cooking sounds lovely!
Lessonlearned - your poor OH having to deal with that. I'm making a stand from here on - I'm not going to let things get to that point. They'll just have to deal with it, and it might make them realise that I should be treated with a bit more consideration than my two peers, who are frankly shocking when they want to be. And good luck with the viewing!
Maman - amazing work to keep at a target weight for so long, well done! An inspiration. It can be done! I think the clothes shopping can be overlooked, in fact I'm about to do some online myself (sales!!!)0 -
Morning fab women. Finally a day to myself so my plan is do some much needed fabbing. My nails are in a shocking state so a mani and pedi is on the agenda, along with facial, a hair mask and polish up my body work :rotfl:
Then on with some nice casual but fab clothes and pop out and buy some healthy food for the weekend and perhaps a tootle around the shops.
Thanks for this Maddie as I'm in need of some new healthy recipes.
Further to previous "chats" about healthy eating, I regularly read the blog of a lady known on MSE as memorygirl, she blogs as mortgagefreeinthree and regularly posts yummy frugal recipes, often healthy ones too. A recent one dicussed those times when we need to eat, but are too tired or just cannot be bothered to cook. I have just made her "better than toast soup" for a quick lunch before yet another hospital appointment and it is delish.
I've also been using my Nutribullet to make green smoothies (or pond slime smoothies as my colleague calls them)
Maman I've just started reading the Marie Kondo book and love the idea of making sure your loungewear sparks joy. I think mine needs a bit of work so thanks for the reminder on that. Mine looks more scruffy muffin than gorgeous goddess
What are you all doing for Fab Friday? :smileyheaCrazy clothes challenge 2017 - 30/3000 -
Happy Fab Friday Everyone
I'm off to meet my friend who is back from Canada, so lots of catching up conversation and fun. going to wear smart casual, not sure what yet, probably jeans, white top and a long cardi.
Have a great day.....0 -
I've got to take a look at the Kondo book! Although I'm not sure I'd have much left if I have to throw out everything that doesn't bring me joy:D
Although it's fab Friday, I'm feeling anything but; been very achey the past few days and today I feel like I've the beginnings of a cold. The weather's damp, dark and miserable too - comfy clothes and lots of Tea today, I'm afraid.
No plans to go anywhere much today, so I might put on a face pack in a bit; my face feels a bit "tight" actually, so a nice moisturising one will do it good.
Im going to take a leaf from that other tidying guru (you know, the one who "flies") and throw out or get rid of at least 10 unwanted/unused things today (or should it be 15?!) - starting with all the out of date/unused toiletries and make up items I have.
Happy Friday:) x0 -
Morning all
What a chilly day it is today. A jeans and jumper - ish kind of day. After less than a week since i was in temperatures of 35 - 40, it is a bit of a shock.
I am also Kondoing - a way to go yet. The clothes thing is very telling - the old " a cupboard full of clothes, but nothing to wear" syndrome. Why nothing to wear? Cos the stuff i like is in the wash. Why haven't i washed / ironed it? cos I have loads of stuff. Why don't i wear that stuff? i dont like it.
Therefore I am reckoning by getting shot of the stuff I don't like, then the stuff I do like will get rotated quicker through the wash / ironing cycle = happy me!
I also looked at jewellery recently - I got rid of about 10 necklaces , leaving only 3. And a load of bracelts (beads or bling) leaving a couple of bangle styles - it appears that beads and bling are not me at all - who knew???:D
I took the time to straighten my hair yesterday - i so prefer it when i do but it does take some time as I have thick very curly / frizzy hair. I really should factor in the straightening though as it makes me feel so much better. I don't wash it very often (every 3 to 4 days) so i should be able to spare half an hour once or twice a week to do it.
So it's jeans, long sleeved t shirt, scarf and either a cardi or jacket for me today - with my chelsea boots. DD and I are off to our little house in Wales, she starts a waitressing job on Monday for 5 weeks :T She doesn't really want to, but i told her that I couldn't have her sat on her ar... err backside for 3 months before she goes back to uni.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Good morning everyone, pouring with rain here, so will go to the market togged up in waterproof coat and cosy walking boots, I have this "thing" about getting my good leather shoes soaking wet if it can be avoided:( so jeans and boots or jeggings and my Dubarry's it will have to be.
Although I woke early, I seem to be in slow coach mode, so must get showered and hair done before OH returns with soaking wet pooch:eek:
Have a great day everyone, mine will not be the least exciting, but I am determined that it will be a good one (mind over matter:rotfl::rotfl:)The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0 -

If you call that slow coach I must be positively stationary!! I've just got out of the shower although I was awake just after 7!
It's just as miserable and wet here too so I thought I'd spend a bit of time on myself. After breakfast, I read the paper from cover to cover, pottered about a bit and then did some fabbing. So all defuzzed, feet filed and creamed. I also remembered to put tea tree oil round my toenails as chiropodist recommended.
Delighted to find tea tree with a brush applicator in Home Bargains and they have muslin facecloths which I enjoy using much more than a flannel.
Teatime we're meant to be going on a riverboat trip. Such a disappointment that it's so wet and horrid. I'm planning my outfit round my shoes too! It's definitely cold enough for socks and I only have ankle boots with heels (note to self to buy Chelsea boots in autumn). So I think it's going to be my faithful Sketchers which might look a bit odd with skinnies (think Minnie Mouse with thin legs and big shoes:rotfl:). So it'll be straight leg dark jeans, stripy navy and white Boden long sleeved top, scarf, cardigan and waterproof/windproof jacket. The jacket's not thick so layers underneath are called for. I'm sure we'll have a good time whatever as good friends are going and we'll have a few medicinal drinks to keep warm.
I know what you mean VJsmum, two weeks ago I was swimming off a boat and welcoming the off shore breeze not huddling inside the cabin to keep out of the rain and wind!:(DD and I are off to our little house in Wales.
Oooh, where in Wales? I envy you:D (closest I could get to green face).
Hope you have a good time with your friend LL.0 -
What a terrible day of weather!!
Bit of a mixed bag for me today. Got up for work feeling absolutely shattered this morning but surprised to find that my usual work jeans felt fairly loose despite being fresh out of the wash when they're usually a bit tighter - maybe the more vegetarian cooking has been paying off! But was so tired I overate at breakfast and today was one of those days when *everyone* decides to bring biscuits in to work!! :rotfl:
Not a nice trip home with flooding on the tube and I feel very unfab as my hair goes mad when there's moisture in the air. To round it off I stood up to get off my train to see someone I think I used to work with. It's always when you look cr*p isn't it....
But now, glass of wine, a frugal "using up leftovers" healthy meal and the Masterchef final followed by an earlyish night and an early start for work.
Have a lovely Friday evening everyone!0 -
Been an unpleasantly busy few days and I am ready for some TLC. After having to sit for a few hours in a room with a massive mirror when I was decidedly not looking my best I now have increased motivation to shape up and slim down.
Yesterday I gave myself a pedicure and added some french polish to my toes which always makes me feel a bit more glamThen I spent time applying my makeup and styling my hair which I am really pleased with since my hairdressers visit.
Over the next couple of days I am going to work out a meal plan as I have been eating too much meat (and various other things) and when I was eating mainly veggie/vegan meals I felt better than I ever have before so I want to get back into good habits. All this talk of exercise has made me consider what else I can add to get into shape, I am considering joining the council gym and going to regular classes.
The bad weather has resulted in me spending a lot of time indoors recently and although I have been doing lovely things they are my usual winter hobbies and I need to start getting out and about in the fresh air.
My trainers that I used to wear with jeans have had to go so I am now trying to find shoes/trainers to wear but I am unsure what kind. The jeans I wear are quite slim fitting but I need shoes that cope with rain as there always seems to be a lot of it here :rotfl:Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
