Tesco Scan Pack Pay

Brilliant, I don't know why I'd put off using it for so long.
No longer stuck behind dottery old wimen raking in their bag for expired coupons and the poor checkout operator having to explain that they had expired in 2009.

We used that when we had a big group of staying at a house before my wedding last year. I was also doing a party for OH's birthday the day after the wedding so this saved so much time

Only problem is my local store doesn't do it :(

I can't say that I found it that good, they don't do it in my local store but do in the next closest that we sometimes use. We've done it three times and all three times there have been so many others doing it that you still get longs lines waiting to pay. Then after scanning and packing everything all three times we have been "randomly selected" for a 100% check which at least 50% of people seem to be selected for. With only one person doing the checks means you wait at least another ten minutes (one time it was over 20) until we could finally leave.

Meanwhile the main checkouts are much quieter with everyone stuck at the scan pack pay station and you could be out in less than 5 minutes from loading your shopping onto the belt.

It's a good idea in theory but it is so open to misuse and theft that they have to do checks that cause big delays. With more stations and less checks it would be a very quick and easy process.

I love the scan and shop and perhaps people in my local area are more afraid of the technology or something but I've never had a wait to pay.

I have two small children with me usually so not having to unpack and repack the trolley every trip is a godsend. However, when the toddler decides she wants to help with the scanning things can take a great deal longer - her aim is really not that good!

I don't get checked all that often now as I have used it so much, but I do often get the staff called anyway. I fail to see why Tesco have to age check me (well, confirm I look over 25) every time I buy a U classified DVD :rotfl:

I always use it, it saves me adding up the total as I go round meaning I'm not in peoples way and I'm in and out quicker. Plus I don't have to rush packing at the tills. I can't remember actually using a manned till now....

I love the Scan as you Shop too.

Never any queues at my local (they have 6 tills). I've been 'randomly selected' maybe 1 in 10 times so not too bad, and it only takes a minute for the operative to scan 3 or 4 items.

The only slight niggle is that some prices are incorrect on the handset. eg this week the grapes scanned in at £2.50 when in fact they're £2.00. Once I got to the till and paid they came out at £2.00 on the receipt (was half anticipating going to CS afterwards to claim 'double the difference' ;)

Couldn't go back to normal checkouts - far far too slow.

Tesco's reinventing the wheel. Safeways had it 10 years ago plus crates and special trolleys for them.
Scan, put in crate, pay, put crate in boot.

Then Safeways were split up between the other supermarkets and the idea died until re-appearing recently

Popped in yesterday, massive queues at the normal checkouts, 4 people at the 8 self scan checkouts although a fair amount of scanners were missing from the racks.

I love it and use it all the time, even if I'm popping in for a few bits. I use the Sainsbury's one too.

There's never a queue at either, although Sainsbury's do seem to run out of handsets more often. I don't know why more people don't use it. It's great to see how much you're spending on the way around and whether you can afford to add that little treat to the trolley :D

  • I use it a lot too, it keeps my daughter amused, she often reminds me something needs scanning.

I think they do regular checks when you first start using the system to make sure it's being used right.

As I just reload my shopping into the trolley without bags it makes my life easier.

Because I tend to put items in forgetting to scan. I do a check through the handset before going to the till. It doesn't take me long as Tesco isn't my main shop.

I think it might have even been longer than 10 years ago... Nearer 20 years I think!! Makes me feel old...

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
