480 teabags costs £5.50 in Asda. If you made 10 cups of tea every single day of the year and used each bag twice, then you have saved the princely sum of £20.91. Or 40 pence per week. :undecided

Easy to knock the numbers down by dividing by weeks, same way that loan or car companies sell you a car that's only £25 per week.

Add up all the different savings and it could be substantial. Like only saving 10p per litre for fuel - it's "only" 10p. Yet on 1000 litres per year that's £100 too. How many £100 savings does it take to start making a different?

Bit like the other thread where someone has been told about a bank account where they can make 10x the amount of interest but isn't bothered. Little savings can add up!

If you're going to create an account to post a joke, you could at least say that your house doesn't have lights. Think of all those lightbulbs, sitting there unused. Inefficient purchasing. ;)

Small savings can mount up. In the days before you had to buy premium bonds in £100 multiples I used to save certain coins and buy a few bonds every time they accumulated. I keep a list of my bonds on a spreadsheet with a note of winning numbers. Some of those small purchases have struck lucky. Admittedly not for big prizes but the original money would otherwise have been frittered away on crisps or something else equally fleeting so at least I have a record of the benefits.

I LOL'd at some of these posts. Yes, some of them in tongue in cheek, but realistically, how much money do you really expect to save per year by re-using teabags and this years Christmas wrapping paper?

Sod that for a game of tin soldiers....

look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves (as long as you're keeping them in the best rate ISA that it!)

might only be teabags, might only be 40p a week... but what if you you did that on 10 items a week...

I think my favourite so far is cutting open toothpaste tubes, or something like that, in order to get every last bit of toothpaste. If we estimate that toothpaste costs about 2p per person per day, and this tip gets you 10% more toothpaste from a tube, you're saving a whopping 0.2p per person per day. Keep that up for a year and it's enough to buy a whole bag of crisps.

Well don't forget that some people are trying to survive on benefits or a minimum wage rather than a fat salary so these kinds of savings to them represent a much larger proportion of their total income. And when you are in that position, cutting open the end of toothpaste tubes and getting a further week's use of them represents a REAL saving.

Of course, for most people there are much better ways of looking after the pennies and pounds than putting them in cash ISAs!

Most of it is common sense and not being wasteful as opposed to mind-boggling savings.

I don't run the tap while I'm brushing my teeth because why would I pour water down the drain without using it?
I use all the toothpaste before starting the next because why would I not?
If I drank tea, I'd use the teabag twice because why would I put something in the bin if it could be used? i.e. assuming a teabag is good for two drinks, making 2 cups with 2 bags is the same as making 2 cup with 1 bag and throwing away an unused bag.
