When I was renting in a student house, I rinsed them out, as that got them clean enough. Any dried, stuck on food got a long soak and a brief scrub without washing up liquid.

I do remember that the flyers for our recycling specifies that recycling must be washed thoroughly or Birmingham council could refuse (harhar) to collect it. Really don't see the point of a thorough clean when the plastic/metal will get melted down anyway...

Will rinse most stuff in washing water, but have peanut butter pots (dogs have peanut butter kongs daily to help keep them occupied!!) that are greasy and hard to clean so tend to swill them and thats it! Moved from one area to another and now its all seperate as we used to put everything together, but they collect weekly here!

The rinse water from milk containers can be used to water plants, it's a bit of a feed for them. Mine seem to like
    it, anyway.
Not at all, milk contaminated water is highly destructive to nature.

Quick rinse for most things, grungy things like chutney jars are washed properly.

It's so that our bin does not stink.

Certainly not. Hot water costs money.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
