Yes I do - any food residue may attract rats (recycling box is kept outside the back door)."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

No, im on a water meter.
We have 2x huge bins for recycling and 1 for non-recycling which are emptied every 2 weeks.0 -
We just give them a quick swill out to stop them stinking as it's bi-weekly collections here. But a lot get the Labrador treatment which does away with the need for a wash.0

Yes. Otherwise it stinks and attracts vermin.0

I have to wash it, as my flat is on the first floor so I'm not trotting down to the communal bins with every item, so it has to stay in a bag in the kitchen until I'm going downstairs anyway.
I've often thought about this, as the usage of hot water (instant combi boiler so it heats the water up on demand) and a bit of washing up liquid must cost something, even if not a lot.
Also, it's quite awkward to put the recycling into the large brown bin, as I need one hand to hold the bin lid open, one to hold my bag of recycling, and a third hand to put the items into the bin. Don't know if carrier bags are acceptable in the plastics and cardboard bin, but I think I'm going to have to start chucking the filled bag in, rather than all the contents separately. Would be much easier if the bins had a small opening or a flap that was easy to raise. The lids are pretty heavy and it's a cumbersome operation.I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

I certainly don't wash all the recyclables - the newspapers might go a bit mushy if I tried that!:D
Food containers generally get a rinse in the washing up water after I've done the regular washing up. That way they don't go smelly, but I haven't wasted any clean water. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
Tins, Bottles etc are the last things to be done.
I wash my dishes in the sink and then all the recycing things are given a thorough wash.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

Yes wash it all at the end of the washing-up. It isn't necessary to use any additional resources.Thank-you to everyone who posts comps :beer:0
