Yes Corydon very large and I am sure there are some good areas. The problem is to find those at her price range
But we haven't dismissed it.
Will have a look at Sutton and surrounding areas. Thanks!0 -

Was that what they were saying in the 80s in the East End before valeues tenfolded over the next 2 decades?
Saying that, Maidenhead town centre can be very rough late at night on a weekend. You takes your pick.

She will fnd a 1 bed in south norwood for her budget. Trains from nor wood junction go straight to Victoria where she vab get the tube to earls court.0

ReadingTim wrote: »As a resident, I'd second the Reading recommendation - £200k could get a Victorian terraced house in the town centre, rather than a flat, if that's her thing. Good leisure and retail facilities, as well as transport links to London, which will only improve with Crossrail. However, said transport will set you back over £5k p/a, and Paddington is a bit of a pain to go from...
Depends where you want to live. Caversham is 12 minute walk to the station but most terraces there will set you back £250k or more.If you aim for the moon if you miss at least you will land among the stars!0 -
South Croydon is the nicer side of Croydon but also more expensive but maybe try Kenley, Whyteleafe or Caterham where prices drop as they are on a branch line from Purley so trains are stopping trains (though you can change onto a fast one at Purley) but they stop at Clapham Junction where as someone else pointed out you can get a train to Earls Court without going into zone 1.
Something worth also remembering about Croydon is that trains run through the night to East Croydon which is great if your sister likes to go out in central London and there is a black cab rank right outside the station.
There are a few nice pubs in South Croydon (apart from Sanderstead which has none on account of it being built on Quaker land!) including some with live music. Fantastic Turkish and Afro/Asian supermarkets in West Croydon. An auction house for Saturday morning impulse buying. A lively market and brilliant second hand record shop. Rehearsal studios with attached venue/bar. alternative clothes shops. Free festival in the summer.
The centre of town is however a hell hole at night.Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)

I moved to North Croydon about 6 months ago. It's still pretty rough, but one of the few places in London you can still buy a lovely Victorian house for sensible money. The North (Norbury, Thornton Heath and Selhurst) is in zone 4, so an annual season ticket is £1,800. You'd have to look past a pretty poor reputation though. That said, I do quite like living here.
It's the kind of place which is probably a bit of a long term bet however. The new Westfield scheme has been rumbling on for a while now and is supposed to open in 2019. There's plenty of money pouring into Croydon right now, whether it will make a difference long term remains to be seen.0 -
Thank you for your feedback on Croydon. We will need to visit different shortlisted areas to get the 'feel' for it as people have different taste and priorities. But your comments are very helpful as good food for thoughts.
Will check Norwood out. Ideally she would like to get a 2 bed as more space (storage & visitors), potential to rent out a room, easier reselling etc. but she knows that she would have to compromise on something.0 -

Really? Most weekends you'd be hard pushed to find anyone in the town centre. Could get knocked over by the tumbleweed though.
That said I really wouldn't fancy Slough after dark, but there is a lot of regeneration going on thrte, easy access to rail / busses /M4 and M25 (incl easy access to heathrow, gatwick, stanstead and luton airports assuming the M25 is playing ball) - you could be in Brighton in s couple of hours. Shopping is also ok there. Think I've just talked myself into buying in Slough :rotfl:Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16
