Support from ISP's

I am assuming that if I change ISP from TTB to Sky or whoever - my "GOTADSL" email address will stay live for a certain length of time (time for me to update all my contacts) ?
The added problem is that TTB also have my phone - and I can forsee problems getting that "released".0 -
I agree - but on the odd occasion that I do need support - I need to be able to contact them - not be totally ignored !!
I am assuming that TT has SLA's ?
I doubt any domestic/retail supplier has strict SLA's with its customers.
Retail BB is sold on the basis of it it goes wrong we will do our best to fix it in reasonable time subject to it not being too costly to fix - but we don't guarantee anything more than that.
For that sort of service with SLA's you need a business line - and yes yet again - you will have to pay a lot more for it.0 -
My question was a "pre-joining" one - just whether I could keep my old Nildram address (gotadsl) which I was "allowed" to keep when I converted to TTB, 6 years ago !!
I guess that if they can't even answer a simple question like that - I should be looking at alternative ISP's ?0 -
I'm with plusnet, I used the plusnet forum recently about a slow speed issue. The thread was quickly assisted by plusnet staff. They made changes then advised an engineers visit. They phoned quickly to check and confirm the visit. Very helpful and friendly throughout.
Not sure how they would be with a business line or your gonads issue but I was very happy with their response.0 -

That depends upon who owns the Nildram email and when they decide to close it .
If the ISP you choose does not own Nildram then you can usually receive but not send .0 -
Has anyone carried out a GENUINE NON-BIASED survey to find out what support is like from ISP's ?
I am trying to contact TT Residential to see if I can move my account to them (for fibre) from TT Business (ADSL) and keep my existing GOTADSL email address.
I emailed them 4 days ago - with no sign of even confirmation that my email has been received yet - so if it is that bad for potential new customers, I worry about what it will be like for existing customers ??
Out of interest why are you thinking of moving away from TalkTalk Business? I joined them from their residential arm in April and couldn't be more happier...line speeds 24/7 (80/20 meg), top class phone support based in Warrington. Certainly as good as the likes of Zen, IDNet but without the eye watering prices. The grass isn't always greener on the other side...0 -
If you are not changing ISPs stick with TT:B they are vastly better than the domestic arm. When I was moving a friends Nildram acct a couple of years ago I couldnt believe that TTB were the same outfit as the domestic side of TT0

GOTADSL is owned by PIPEX - which is owned by TISCALI - which I am assuming is part of the TT Empire (rather than vice versa ?)
All that I know is that my gotadsl email address has remained with me for 10+ years and I intend to hang on to it.......
So if I do change ISP's to TT Residential - I see no reason why I should not keep it.
I had a webchat with TT Residential yesterday and was (eventually) informed that it was down to TTB whether I was allowed to keep it, but TTB tell me that it is down to TTR - so I am no wiser !!0 -
You are in a position with any free ISP email service of losing the mail address if you move ISP .Same goes for large groups consolidating old email accounts .
Does not make sense to have an address that is not yours to keep .0
