I would google to find out what a suitable pollinator for a Morello might be. I am sure you aren't a rubbish gardener, even experts (I am not one, but recently bought and planted some new fruit trees, and looked it up) have to check up what pollinates which varieties. My cherry is supposed to be self pollinating. Likewise the pear, but the apples had to be compatible varieties :)

I also have a very clever quince tree that is wee (and can live in a big pot) and has quinces on it each year all on its own :D

Popped into the local sainsbobs metro to get ds some calpol as he has cold & temp again & picked up 2 packs of honey roast ham at 25p a pack & a 1kg bag of maris pipers for 35 p. The ham is in the freezer ready for school trip packed lunches or pasta salad & the potatos are in a canvas pag inside a black bin liner at the darkets corner of our stone pantry floor. Apparently this will ensure they last much longer than normal.

I have an idea to do some hassleback potatoes in the slow cooker next week to serve with hotdogs.

  • Got really cross today. Like a good frugaller I've been trying to save gas and electricity all year. Got our half yearly statement today. We are in credit by nearly £60, but they are going to increase our monthly DD by £18 per month from February.

This is a company who offered to put us on a lower tariff when we were £140 in credit in summer, but then locked our account due to an internal glitch their end, and by the time it was sorted said that that tariff was no longer available, and when we complained said they couldn't do anything for legal reasons.

I am really cross. And because my husband transferred us to them and didn't put my name on the bills, I can't even argue with them and have to wait until he can be bothered.

    Rant over now.

  • Just joined and been approved on the slow cooker wonders, so will have a nose through..

bought a load of bacon from a farm shop ( we ran out of our own bacon months ago) so been trying to use that up over the last few days, so been having bacon sandwiches for dinner, last night we had bacon, beans and mashed potatoes, and today hubby had beans, egg and bacon on toast, I pinged the veg that was left from a dinner I made a few days ago, and just added a few knobs of butter on it...

I've been though the freezer & cupboards & made a meal plan for ds dinner for the next 2 weeks. I will make a list of those extra things needed to make up a meal from scratch or to go with a cupboard item. Will make larger batches of cottage pie & lasagne as they are easily frozen. After that am actually NOT going to re stock the freezer & only buy ys items that I will actually use. My weekly food/personal budget will also be split into saved pots for bulk shops at costco for loo & kitchen rolls & another amount put aside for oh asian food shop. Hopefully by just cooking what I have in will encourage me to waste less & plan more.
