The beer in cans is basically dead so the degradation over time in a completely sealed, air-free, light-free vessel is minimal to nil. Beer itself is not especially different to any other canned food, and canned foods last pretty much forever until opened.

Not sure when it comes to bottles but i can assure you that the cans im drinking which are nearly 13 month after the BB taste no different to the cans which are within the BB

I know my husband has tried a couple of bitters that were out of date and he said they were stale.....different beers must age slightly differently..

I was in there this morning and they were selling Ten year old Whisky!
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

So the beer itself is out of date by a couple of months and the promotion is a year out of date.

The amount of times I buy something with a competition on it and it's expired. I had some doritos the other day with a world cup competition on them!

BB is a guideline but if you're that miffed take them back.

  • Sounds like an isolated case where your store have missed the Hobgoblin when code checking (checking best before dates). A warning about checking your Christmas beer from Morrisons is not really needed.

Also it is not illegal to sell products with an expired promotion on the pack, or best before date even.

I've taken out of date stuff back to supermarkets before.

Best before - lot less fussed, I'll eat stuff. We once took back a pack of naan breads that were a couple of months out of best before because they'd gone pretty solid!

Use by - totally different kettle of fish. Speaking of which, I pointed out a whole shelf of packets of prawns that were well past their use by to staff in Asda and they didn't seem that fussed. Same thing happened with some meat in my local Tesco a few months later and they were very apologetic and cleared them straight away.

If you have the receipt, take them back and they'll replace them. I've never had a gift voucher for my trouble though.

What do you expect, the staff to go all hysterical about it? After working in retail, finding stuff out of date is all part and parcel of the job. :)

Drink half the cans, take the remainder back and get them replaced. Buy one get half free!
