buried telephone line - no line plant

You have to remember that BT or Openreach have already satisfied the USO , universal service obligation, their lineplant has been rendered unusable by actions of others, so the reinstatement is chargeable and it doesn't mater who the service provider is, BT Retail, EE or anyone else,
If someone built a brand new, never been served before property, then OR would meet the first £3000 or equivalent in man hours, and anything over this would be chargeable to the end user.0 -

LAD=30 WORKING DAYS
COST=£1187.49
Excess charges will be applicable for this order.
No solutions will be executed until customer agreement is
obtained.
Total Excess Charges are £1187.49 excluding vat.
Survey Charge £255.58
Breakdown of charges items :-
By BT:
Provision of new Small Footway box £704.89 X 1
Duct Footway: 1mts @ £40.56/Metre
Duct Soft: 7mts @ £20.28/Metre = £141.96
Cable in duct: 10m X £4.45 = £44.50
As a large proportion of the cost seems to be the footway box finding the cable in your garden could make this much cheaper. Can you find out exactly what you are looking for and how deep they are normally buried?.

I've previously worked with a few ISP's who absorbed much higher charges than that when they didn't need to, to avoid negative PRAll your base are belong to us.0 -

That way you can go with a different ISP
I dont think there is a cooling off period, once the service is provided, you are in contract.0 -

It would be very helpful if you told us who these few ISPs are?0 -

When your solicitors arranged your conveyance, did he/she establish that a telephone line was connected to the property? Did the developers make any representations concerning the line? This may have done by no more than tick a box. If the developers damaged the line then responsibility may well lie in their direction.
I would have expected a solicitor/conveyancer to have addressed a matter of such fundamental importance.I have osteoarthritis in my hands so I speak my messages into a microphone using Dragon. Some people make "typos" but I often make "speakos".0 -
