Rock Law - Can I go back now?

Options
I've done something a bit stupid. Yesterday I fell for one of those PPI company pitches from Rock Law. I signed an online form and they have taken £500 from my credit card. Is there anything I can do to cancel and get my money back?

Ask for your money back. You haven't signed anything. If they refuse, report them.
  • I did sign an online form. I feel so daft. They said they had access to my financial details and could see I was on the 'PPI owed' list which is obviously a lie.

It requires a written signature. Regardless of that see https://www.gov.uk/claim-compensation-for-injury-or-financial-loss#overview

    Specifically
You will have to sign a contract with the CMC (if you haven’t signed then you haven’t made a contract). You have 14 days from signing your contract to cancel it without being charged.

Even ignoring the written signature issue, you have 14 days to cancel.
  • What a surprise - they are in Swansea.

There was a time when we sent all our criminals to New South Wales. Now it seems they go to OLD South Wales!

I suggest you send the following e-mail to info@rock-law.co.uk with a copy to consumer@claimsregulation.gov.uk

FORMAL COMPLAINT AGAINST ROCK LAW LIMITED

On 17 December 2014, your company told me told me it had access to my financial details and persuaded me to apply for it to seek compensation for missold payment protection insurance.

I have now learned that if it has access to such personal data it has breached the Data Protection Act 1998 and therefore committed a criminal offence.

If it did not have such data then it has made a statement which it knows to be untrue in order to make a gain for itself. This is in breach of the Fraud Act 2006 and therefore also a criminal offence.

You have also taken £500 from my credit card account. At no point do your terms and conditions say you will do this up front and your regulator requires that I am given a proper opportunity to consider your contract and 14 days to cancel it BEFORE being charged.

I therefore consider you to have breached its rules buy taking a payment from my account which you were not authorised to do.

I demand immediate reimbursement of my money.

A copy of this e-mail is being sent to your regulator.
  • As well as sending this e-mail, go to your credit card company and tell them it was debited without valid authority. They will probably re-credit it.

If the scumbags give your money back directly, you will probably need to return it to them. On the other hand, I see they charge £75 per hour for their time so I would be tempted to charge them the same rate!
  • Thank you so much for your replies. I have emailed them and will call my credit card company.

I was ill when I took the call, when the fever cleared I came to my senses!

Rock Law are also ARB Advisory and the paperwork you would have signed is in fact 2 separate contracts, one with Rock Law and the other with ARB so you need to send the complaint that magpiecottage drafted in post #5 to BOTH companies.
  • How is this company allowed to operate? I think I've been scammed by this company they call themselves rock law but run from the same offices as ARB advisory. I foolishly handed over £495 on my credit card to be told I would get this back on completion of my PPI claims. I've received one claim back but have now been billed for 30% of this. I did write to cancel within the 14 days but was called back by a very heavy sales welsh salesman saying he had checked and I was entitled to £6,000 compensation. It has been 6 months now and only £100 back. Any ideas of where I should go for advice? They said if I cancel now I will have to pay £75 per hour for the work they have completed!
