MSE News: Yodel again voted among the worst delivery firms, despite improvement

I had a bad experience with Citylink. They left a missed delivery card when I was at work. I went to the depot the next evening to pick up the package and was told that it had been delivered. The note on the computer said that the driver had left the package in my porch. Strangely enough, I don't have a porch! The assistant that I spoke to promised to speak to the driver and chase up where the package had been delivered. I heard nothing back.
I put in a complaint through the website, and it was days before I even got a response.
Eventually I was told that the driver had gone back to where he thought he had left the package and couldn't find it. I imagine he either left it leaning against my house and someone took it, or misdelivered it.
It was a competition win that came without notification (as many of them do). Citylink wouldn't give me details of the sender. I've lost a prize, and the sender has paid for a package to be delivered which wasn't.
It's no wonder that they are named Sh****link online ....0 -
I much prefer Royal Mail for missed deliveries. I work full time, so tend to got to the sorting office on a Saturday morning to pick up missed deliveries.
Hermes is difficult, because they don't have a depot. I have had to ask for parcels to be left in the wheelie bin next to my front door because there is nowhere that I can collect them from.0 -
I have had deliveries from both this last month. Yes I did have to wait in, but I much prefer this to shopping, at least I can do other things.
All the delivery men were polite and everything was delivered when stated.
I have had problems in the past, but this year they all deserve congratulations.0 -
Unless it's a really large item, I much prefer to pick up myself.
Argos could pick up some money as a collection point.
I don't mind paying £1 extra to pick up.
The item turns up, a text is sent to my phone, plus an e-mail.
Obviously, things that fit through the letterbox and don't need a signature should just be popped through the letterbox.
They already do

Dear MSE
How come anyvan.com haven't been included in the survey? Admittedly it is more for larger items (e.g. Furniture bought off eBay or John Pye) but I've found them easy to use, reliable and good VFM. (If you're not familiar with them they are a network of approved van drivers who pick up & drop off parcels on a reverse auction basis).0 -
May as well add in my YODEL complaint!
Admittedly i ordered something on Monday (22nd) with Amazon Prime Next Day Delivery They usually use DPD in my area so I thought that I'd get my order around 2:30 ( that is the usual time the local DPD van gets to my area!)
But I find out to my horror that it's been shipped via YODEL! now it's 36 hours later and yodel have to even picked the parcel up from Amazon's Warehouse yet!
Amazon replied very quickly to my email considering it was sent at 1am! Yodel will probably take till new years to reply!!
To make things worse my Day out shopping In Glasgow was a bit of a downer on Monday!saw the aftermath first hand! Didn't feel much like shopping then...

Amazon prime is no longer marketed as a next day service.
Yodel dont offer a next day service.
So dont think Amazon are blameless in this.0 -

Funny I ordered it the option i chose clearly said "Next day delivery for Tuesday 23rd" when i ordered it! Even offering me next day before 1pm (Which i should have taken!!).
Though the default now is "2-3 business days + £1 Amazon credit" you have to select "Next Day Delivery"
I order from then regularly and always use next day delivery! and it always comes the next day with DPD!
Amazon are chasing Yodel up. I'm also chasing Yodel up myself.Laters

I read with interest the comments regarding poor deliveries by couriers, and noted the "league table" regarding performance.
By contrast I have to say that Yodel, mentioned as one of the worst performers, has never failed to deliver goods to me on time. An example being a package despatched by a retailer on Monday 22nd Dec on standard delivery arrived the following day.
Let us not forget the unprecented use of online shopping this year was unpredictable, and all carriers experienced heavy demands on resources. This despite the gloom and doom of austerity.
Only in recent months have I used AMAZON, but this month alone I have placed around 10 orders with them, and all have been delivered before ot on the date speciified, using their logistics or other carriers incluidng Yodel. Might be luck of the draw, eho knows !0 -
Very nice. Just what I want.
Except nobody I bought from in the last year offered it.
The ones that I do buy from also totally ignore the instruction for the driver of leaving the item in the black box (not dust bin) by the front door.
Oldest and best is Royal Mail, as the sorting office is a short drive away, so pick up is no problem.0
