Upgrading with vodafone - can I negotiate at all?
Both myself and my husband have contracts with vodaphone under my account. We have been with them for a long time.
We are going to have to replace our phone soon (both 3 years old).
I would like the new iphone 6 and my husband one of the samsung note. As they are both new phones we have been told in one of stores under no circumstance can they offer us a loyalty discount as we will pay the same a new customer.
If this is a case I may look at moving to a different provider - which is more of a pain but worth if I can get a better deal.
Is it worth trying to call them and negotiate or will I just be wasting my time?

I upgraded this week via the online chat. It was easy, the Vodafone person was very helpful. If you work for certain companies you can get a discount on the line rental through their VEA(?) scheme - I got 20% off. The phone should have been £29 but my friend got it free so he gave me a £29 credit on my bill. He said that I would not be able to get the same upgrade deal in a shop - don't know whether that's true or not.0

Unfortunately loyalty counts for nothing, its all about how much you spend each month. As others have said go look at the competition, even if you can't use them due to limited reception where you are the network don't need to know that and it may be a bargaining chip.I would like the new iphone 6 and my husband one of the samsung note. For the iPhone, you have very little chance of a deal, iPhones sell themselves and they don't need to be discounted to sell. There's also very little variation on the overall 2 year cost from all networks so there very little wiggle room.
The Note has a better chance of a reduction.
Something else to consider is the family plans you may get a reduction for having more than one phone on an account rather than having an account each.0 -

10% off plans up to £20, 20% off plans over £20. We have it at work, it was still cheaper to go to Tesco.
Be aware if you wish to take this out you have to apply to for it within 30 days of taking out the contract. How you apply varies, as they have to validate your employer, some do it over the web, we do it though our intranet, others you take a payslip or ID card into store. He said that I would not be able to get the same upgrade deal in a shop - don't know whether that's true or not.
Sort of, its only available via Vodafone so can be online or in store, but not valid on contracts through 3rd partys, so not valid if you go though Carphone Warehouse and the like.0 -
i'd be very surprised if they wriggle at all on the iphone 6. this is the most in demand handset at the moment, they have no need to offer incentives to sell them and the associated contracts.
On the Note maybe, there's no harm in trying.
Don't feel obligated to stay with Voda tho, it's really easy to cancel and port your number to a new provider, if they are offering you a better deal.0 -
I managed to negotiated a iPhone 6 64GB, for cost of 9.99. Then they did it monthly cost £43.50 for 4G unlimited minutes and unlimited text and 4GB of data, which is better than what they have offered of the website. And I can get 20% friends and family through work.
So all in all its not the money saving sim only contract I have had for a year (£12.50) a month, but I am pleased I managed to get something off.
To be honest they didn't put up much a fight and just matched the deal I wanted so I wondered if I could have done slightly better, but as my iphone 4 has finally died I really needed to get something sorted this weekend.
Husband contract will be due to upgrade in a week or so will see what we can get on that.
Thanks for your help everyone0 -
