MSE News: First-time buyers to get 20% discount on 'starter homes'

Ok, so when are these houses going to be available and will you be able to also have the help to buy equilty loan as well?
I think it's a good idea as if this is the case il be buying new now as the only reason I'm saving to buy second hand was because new houses are inflated but this will sort that out now and in 5 years time it should be benefit me.0 -
They 'hope' building will start soon, so there's no guarnatee when any will be available on the market. I guess it has to be agreed at the planning stage as any developments already in progress will already have agreed the CIL / S106.
I'm still sceptical about the 20% "discount". You might still end up paying over the odds if the developer over estimates the prices achievable.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -

Nothing is ever made cheaper by subsidising it, doesn't matter who underwrites the subsidy.0

Putting aside the arguments about the policy itself, do anyone think a first time buyer should wait until the starter homes are launched to explore the option?
Currently there are new developments for sale in brownfield sites for a very inflated price. So, the starter homes cannot be any worse?0 -
Fake scheme, it wont happen. He will be gone by may0

Any actual houses being offered for this yet or any concrete timescales?0

This Scheme would be ideal for us 1st time buyers in need of help...IF THEY BUILT THE HOUSES NOW!
Building and selling these houses in 3, 4, 5 years time is no good. House prices will rise another 20% very soon! and therefore this will be pointless.....This should be a scheme to help those who can't quite get on the property ladder.....
at the end of the day these houses will likely be sold to people with decent salary's who could actually afford to pay full market value - as all this scheme will do is end up selling these houses at 2015 prices - which are unaffordable. They need to be 2015 prices minus the 20%.....ie. They need to build these bloomin houses now. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Have there been any actual homes built or planned for starter homes yet?0
