Help choosing a Imac

Do you honestly think that is a good spec for £900.
Very poor value if you ask me.
Compared to what? My whole a point is that you pay a premium for an all-in-one computer (not just the brand). People compare iMacs with PC towers all the time, and it's not fair - they should be compared to all-in-one computers. All-in-ones do look like poor value compared to towers, but they're packaged in a different way, so they cost more.
Again, I invite you to look at the specs and prices of PC all in ones, and you may be surprised about how low spec and high price they also are, compared to towers.OS X is far superior to windows in every single way possible.
Sweeping, exaggerated, and wrong. Touch support in OSX is pretty abysmal to non existent, for example. So the huge premium for a Mac
Proven to be wrong in this very thread. But I'll not defend their pricing for adding RAM etc.0 -
I'd never recommend anyone got an all-in-one regardless of manufacture. Why link your monitor and box together in such a hard to upgrade manner?
The monitor I'm running (24" LCD) is at least twice as old as the PC it's connected to. I'd hate to have to upgrade monitors whenever I switch base unit.0 -

I agree all in ones offer poor value for money. How about this one with a better processor and a bigger screen for £200 less than the described iMac http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/desktop-pcs/all-in-one-pcs/hp-pavilion-23-p030na-23-touchscreen-all-in-one-pc-10011486-pdt.html?gclid=CjwKEAiAk8qkBRDOqYediILQ5BMSJAB40A5UurXdIEdWY17dC75q0kUp49IDrF2Yd7-ZWgQmVa4DKxoCgYvw_wcB&srcid=198&cmpid=ppc~gg~~~Exact&mc!!!!!gg_goog_7904&s_kwcid=AL!3391!3!52032845299!!!g!90467942179!&ef_id=VE5wKwAABNaCIM-1:20141218152610:s#cat-0
Or this one superior spec for less money.http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/desktop-pc-monitors/desktop-pcs/all-in-one-pcs/acer-aspire-z3-615-23-touchscreen-all-in-one-pc-10011027-pdt.html#cat-00 -

They are good all in ones, but lack the OSX, and to make things worse have winfail 8 on it!! that alone must qualify it for a 99% discount.

OSO
Have you tried osx?
You do realise you may not like it, not everyone does.0 -
Of course you could get rid of both OSX and Windows and go for Linux instead, far superior to both0

No I haven't tried OSx.
But I have tried winfail 8 and apart form Vista its the worst operating system ever to be spewed up from the bowels of hell!0 -
I have a PC and a Mac. I can't compare the two like for like because the PC is from 2002 and runs XP, and the Mac is from 2009 and runs Mountain Lion.
However there are some things I don't miss about the PC experience (and I accept things may have changed since):
1. The whole installing apps/update experience is handled so much more unobtrusively on OSX. No more patches that brick the system and app installation and updates are much more elegant.
2. The security environment has so much less impact on the experience. I still run an antivirus but it doesn't slow the machine and it's completely unobtrusive. I'm not running an anti-virus + anti-malware + third party firewall constantly sending pop ups.
3. None of the tinkering with the machine to keep it running smoothly. De-fragging etc. Trying to find the best third party software to make the experience better. I used to browse the MSE Tech Forum everyday. Now I look in once every week or so.
4. Parts of the Apple ecosystem such as iMessage running on all my devices including desktop. Notes appearing on all devices.
What I don't enjoy on OSX:
1. Adobe Flash Player is just horrid especially the update process.
2. Gaming. Online Mac only servers much quieter and games arrive later than on PC.
3. Chrome Browser is a big memory hog.
The bottom line is that both systems get the job done. For most people once you are in a cross platform app it's the same experience i.e Photoshop looks the same in Windows or OSX.
If you are thinking of changing over...ask some friends who have done it whether they would go back to Windows. That's usually a good test!
Hope that helps
