Shortchanged - enjoy the new computer. Not a gaming device at all, but great for everything else.

Do you honestly think that is a good spec for £900.

Very poor value if you ask me.

And presumably the computers you are thinking of are also 5-40mm in thickness for both screen and computer together?

No? So you really arent comparing like for like are you?

No one will ever buy anything short of a Mac Pro (not MacBook Pro) to get the most CPU/GPU power to the cost ratio. There is a significant cost in getting that level of miniaturization and "style" and all the problems with heat etc that it creates.

Of cause not everyone wants slim line design, I know someone who still has a Rear Projector TVs because they dont think its worth switching to LED/LCD just to get away from the giant box of a thing their 50" screens. Most others wonder what the hell it is they have in their lounge though when they see it.

Whilst retail price is high, resell price is also high. How much will your computer be worth in 6 years time? I know I just sold my old iMac for just over £1,000

Most people regard all in one pc's as poor value yet imacs are the dogs danglers.

The reason you can resell your Mac for a high price is because the people who are buying them off you have the same mentality and have been brainwashed into thinking that apple products are so great.
  • I love reading the I hate / love apple / A N Other brand!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I do feel that Apple products are expensive, and I am looking at getting one for as little as possible, but that said How much value can you put on learning? I will be a new experience owning and using a Mac.

Do The people saying its not good value go on about buying an Audi as opposed to a Seat?

Anyhow thanks for all the comments, I have just read that teachers can get a discount from Apple so I will get my Wife to order it as she is a teacher!! :T

Agreed, but for a fair proportion of people, at least, in the end its the total cost of ownership that is important not just the headline price.

I buy a Dell/ Asus/ Samsung etc for £600 and its worth £100 in 5 years time -v- buying a mac for £1,000 that is still worth £600 in 5 years time then actually I've had £400 for the Mac -v- £500 for the PC.

Ok, there is possibly a cashflow issue to afford the higher initial price and there is a risk that the bottom will drop out of the 2nd hand market but on the basis the old PowerPC macs still sell for silly money I think its unlikely.

Personally I dont ever buy a computer thinking it will last forever nor that I will keep it until it dies. In fact the iMac I sold at 6 years old is by far the oldest computer I've ever had and to be honest it was still able to do everything I wanted perfectly but the Mrs' uni discount ends soon and so seemed a sensible time to upgrade to the 5k screen before thats lost.

For students, discount varies by level of education, Uni gets the most and goes down from there.

Dont know if its the same for staff or not but certainly worth checking you are getting the maximum discount.

Now, my wife is genuinely entitled to the discount but if you google the right thing you will find links to the different university/ school versions of the Apple Store. My order is currently showing as "awaiting dispatch" and to date no one has asked for any proof she is actually a student - though was told they'd be asking for a photo of her student card that hasnt happened yet.

That is what has put me off in the past but I am biting the bullet. All my PCs/laptops have lasted about 3/4 years before being replaced and in most cases sold on for £50 or less, I plan to keep this for as long as possible.

Fair enough. At least you are admitting apple is a designer brand and is essentially style over substance.

Style and substance, they are not mutually exclusive things, you just pay for both elements

No I would argue that you are overpaying for an underspecced computer which to me equates to style over substance.
