Ok tough one Garnet Gem but if where you shop does online shopping or you know the prices then cost your list, take no more than a £ or so for extras. If you haven't got it you can't spend it. If I go to the shop for JUST milk I take £1, never any more or it'll go. Possibly because the budget you are setting is to low for you aswell, how much is it less than what you were spending ? Or you just might be a natural rebel and need to just keep setting it low and going a bit over :rotfl:
One day I might be more organised...........

I'm not setting it too low according to what other MSE-ers spend each month!! £5 x 31 for August = £155 so I'm going to try and stick to that for my budget (including petrol) this month.

Hello there. Having been reading this site for some time and constantly writing down all the tips that appear. Have decided to bite the bullet and join Augusts Grocery Challenge. As I have'nt saved all my previous receipts I've taken a look at everybody else's challenges and have decided to set my challenge at £350, this is for 4 adults comprising of 2 x fortyplus-somethings, 1 x 18 year old and 1 x 20 year. So fingers crossed here we go.

I've been reading your tips and empathise with all parents during the school holidays as I've been there, so here's a little tip to get me started. Asda are currently selling Smart Price Strawberry Flavour Dessert Whip (Angel Delight sort of thing), marked price is 11p, they're selling it at 3p, it's great for making up with milk as instructed but rather than having it as a dessert put in into lollypop moulds and freeze. Cheap as chips ice lollies. Makes about 6 lollies for 20p (?)

    Talk again soon.

Well, I'm in (AGAIN) for August. Did very badly in July and totally lost track :o - but came back from our holiday yesterday & am determined to do better!!

My budget is £340 for 2 adults and 3 children (6 [almost 7!!], 4 and 9 months!!!) This includes all food, household cleaning etc, nappies, baby milk etc etc.

Did a Tesco shop today which was not that well planned, but got quite a few biggish items (washing powder, nappies, formula etc) - and spent £104.69:eek:

My month runs from 25/7/07 - 29/8/07, so includes all the school holidays!!! We tend to have lots of picnics etc though and I plan to cut down on takeaways etc, so fingers crossed I may be able to do it? I haven't managed to come in under budget for ages....so here's hoping!!

I think I'll opt for deliveries from Mr T's over the hols - avoid all that impulse spending when I have the kids in tow!!;)

  • I'm for August. Filled up the freezer today and stocked up on things like loo rolls which were on offer. We went to Norwich today and with all the sales going on my oh was amazed that all I bought were some things from the pound shop. Coulden't believe the things you can get for £1, even hair dye so bought that as well. :T

OK, my budget will be £400 this month. It's a 5 week month (as I'm starting tomorrow) and I have 5 weeks of school holidays to get through (and want to visit some cafe's while on days out) and we also have a trip to the Greenbelt Festival within this month - so that will involve some spending on scoff while there.
Budget will include food, takeaways and meals out.

The veg boxes should be £83.50 this month if I don't go mad with extra's. Meals out will probably be about £100 so have £40 a week for supermarket shopping which will be a challenge for me.

    Hi

Over again this month but not as much as last month so I am going to stick with £300 (2 adults,2 dd's 4 + 6) and i can already see were i am spending wastefully. Kept a spending diary for the first time last month and it really is surprising where you money goes when it should not. I was a bit sceptical about the spending diary but i can assure you it is the best thing i have done.:T

My month begins from tomorrow as it is pay day

OK, why is it when you decide to use up what you've got and not go shopping till the end of the week, you suddenly don't fancy eating any of it...? Needed some more fruit anyway, so topped up on a few bits and pieces, ham and cheese and some bagels that were reduced which will make a nice change from toast for breakfast. Did resist (well, picked up and put back) ice cream though :A £4.53 onto my total.
