    Don't unnecessarily confuse the issue.

The Free-to-air channels are the virtually the same (with a few notable exceptions) whether received from satellite or terrestrial transmitter.

They may be similar but it is not Freeview that the OP will be getting.

    Not confusing, clarifying.

    To summarize:

If you want to watch Freesat channels, you need a satellite dish and a receiving box (Sky)or a, quite rare, Freesat enabled tv, but if you want to record them , you have to either pay Sky a monthly fee or buy a PVR, making sure it works with Freesat and not Freeview (as the Talk Talk box does).

If you want to view Freeview channels, you need an aerial (be it on the roof, in the loft or a table top one). Also you need a Freeview enabled tv or a basic Freeview set top box. To record Freeview you need a Freeview PVR (not Freesat).

Yup, you'll need to spend to get to record TV. Either buy an aerial for your TT box, or a Freesat box to plug into the satellite dish. I assume you have TWO cables from your dish, which would have allowed you to record 2 things at the same time on Sky, and will do exactly the same on Freesat. Goto the Humax Direct store, and look for manager's specials, or even cheaper, Humax Foxsat HDRs will be way under £100 by now. A 'Freetime' box would be best though to include on-demand content.
Moneyineptitude - I think wiogs was right to clarify that Freeview comes through an aerial. There are subtle differences between the channel line ups on each platform, but that might be important to whoever is asking the question. wiogs didn't complicate it, the system is complicated!
