I have been hiding as I feel rather ashamed of myself.

    I'm on £156.55/£100. :(

My turn to fess up too!! I'm already over budget. £86.64 / £80. I doesn't surprise me though, and I've still got at least 6 days left to go. I always find weekends more difficult. Setting myself a mini challenge between now and the end of January to eat what I have in the house rather than going into a shop (tbh that was supposed to be the plan for January anyway!) damage limitation now. Brussel sprout soup for dinner, with cheese & jalepeno bread that ahem, fell into my basket when in Mr T earlier!!

There may be some "interesting" combinations for dinner over the next few days!!
My name is CherryPie and I'm addicted to grocery shopping!!

£6.27 at Asd* today. Only 10 more days to go thankfully. I am still on target and I always find I get more creative at the end of the month with what I have in the house so I am hoping to come in under budget a little :)

  • Well i've done an online shop at Mr T's. Getting delivered tomorrow, so today is a NSD!!

Unfortunatly my Mr T's shop comes to £60. It was £72 and i've cut it down. I think i'm gonna try and cut it down again, because i still have 9/10 days left. The problem is i'm out of washing up liquid, washing powder, gravy, mint sauce, ketchup, vinegar....ect quite a few expensive things and a lot of basic staple products. Think i might give some cheaper brands a try.....

Hiya CP. Have you tried all the cheaper shops for these things. I buy lots of them at F.Foods, Home Bags, BnM and £shops. Can get quite a bit cheaper there ;)

I had another NSD today so still within budget with ten days to go.

Hope you all have a thrifty day

  • Good morning everyone.

Well yesterday I had to go shopping for a few bits. Went to Mr Ts for YS bits, but there was nothing I wanted so I did buy 3kg of penne pasta reduced to £1.70 plus a bag of sweets for 40p = £2.10.

Then went to Ald* for milk and salad which came to £4.78.

I shall get the Ald* voucher today x 2 one for this week and one for next week. Plan my meals and do a list for Friday.

I am pleased with how the month has gone and am underbudget, mainly because we are saving as much money for our rent, so have very little to spare. I do have food in the cupboards and a very small freezer, need a bigger one:). I get paid on Tuesday, so will join the February challenge next week and am determined to keep on with this as it is so good to keep a rein on the food spending.

Thank you to all who post as its so helpful to get ideas from others doing the same thing.

and Lidl and Aldi are worth looking into for staple items ;)

After the mega shop on Tuesday I already have a shopping list for next time :( I was rushing and forgot important stuff like feta cheese, tinned tomatoes.....

I've got 26 pound to last me til Sunday. Sunday is nearly always a nsd so hoping I stick to a nsd this week which means I've only got three days to go. Nothing major needed. Just the usual pack up bits and the bread/milk/fruit and veg combo.

Picking up a couple of papers for the aldi voucher to use next Thursday. Good luck everyone x

Don't feel asahamed  Firstly you say say you know why you went over so that is a good start. Secondly you need to make sure your budget is 'realistic' None of us should be starving ourselves simply to stay in budget.

If you have thoroughly worked it through and you know it is a realistic budget then just work on making meal plans and lists to help you keep track of what you are spending.

I have found that by making a meal plan for the whole month, and writing down every ingredient required, I have spent less than ever. I have also decided against getting certain cereal or puddings that I may have done in the past etc.

Good luck with next months challenge ;)

I've never meal planned for the whole month before, I'll give it a go in February, thanks!

Well there was the l!dl over-excitement, and I thought we had lots left from Christmas, but that was in fact mostly sweets and chocolate rather than proper food! :rotfl:

Yes! I find weekends difficult too! Especially as OH is only home at the weekends, I feel like we deserve luxury food and treats, and meat with every meal. I did get the AGCJ book and River Cottage Veg Everyday for Christmas so I can get working on the meat issue...
