I've got at Ikea Linnmon top and Alex drawer unit. Linnmon comes in 150cm.

I think the picture shows 200cm top.

Hmm, just had a delayed brainwave.

Maybe i should stop googling "computer desk" & just instead start searching for desks & see if any are suitable.

Off the top of my head my maximum desk length can be 160cm, no more. Depth approx 60cm. I'd like the option of a longer one but due to the room layout it's unfortunately not possible.

EDIT: If i'm right, the above link is just a table top with some drawers thrown in - like a mix-&-match? Search for a table top, search for drawers, buy them & piece them together, correct?

Yes but the drawers are designed to support the top and are the same height as legs so you can use a combination of both.

That's the thing I find you really need to go to IKEA as the website isn't great.
  • Unfortunately i think our nearest IKEA is an hour away. Bit of a drive for a desk.

Are the tops as solid in real life as they look in the photo?

The ones i've been linking up i think say around 22mm laminated wood.

But then take the one i saw in IKEA for example http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/80214158/ looks like a good solid piece, perhaps about 50mm.

    Are they really that chunky?

The Linnmon tops are quite thick 3.4cm but they are quite light. Also I think I made a mistake and the 1.5m top is 75cm deep whereas the 1.2cm I've got is 60cm. I've got a few Malm chest of drawers are they quite well put together and fairly solid very good for price I have not looked at desk.
  • Well all in all i've spent around an hour today looking at desks that'll accommodate my apparently large PC tower & i've found absolutely nothing. The closest is the IKEA one.

Quite annoying but beggars can't be choosers.

Going to have to see if i can find alternative storage for the room now.

My Ikea desk has a tower bay 53X53X33Cm (quick measure) So don't know which ones you are looking at.....It's a solid as a rock. Comes in three colours.

    1. I'm looking at the ones i provided links to :) And desks along that style.

    2. The problem with the desk you linked to (& similar ones) is that they don't give you the dimensions of the tower unit. Some of the ones i've been looking at don't give you the dimensions, but then others do, so i measured against mine & on height & length it's a total no-no.

The Ikea ones like you linked to look nice (& pricey) but there's just no dimensions to go off.
