wow your head must be going around in circles, I commend you for wanting to work with 6 kids, a lot wouldn't.

    on the positive side

valued opinions you can earn a small amount per month doing surveys online.

try the volunteer offices, I am going on Tuesday to help out a project, that helps young people back into jobs, not only am I surrounding myself with a job related volunteer experience, I might hear of a job while there to apply, I get experience and you never know where it may lead. I am going to do about a morning a week. Again lots of job clubs abound, either volunteer there or attend to get ideas or talk to others.

enter competitions you never know you might win your new car :)

im looking too its very frustrating
  • Are you sure about having to have a room pet-free to do childminding? My ex's mum and sister both childmind and both have pets (his mum had three cats and one dog but is now down to one cat and his sister has a cat). His mums cats used to roam the house all through out the day!

Have a look at your local hospital, they're often more happy to accommodate child friendly hours on secretarial/admin posts, with care posts it's harder but it can happen.

No problem. I'd recommend checking out http://www.do-it.org.uk/search/opportunities for volunteer positions. Great site.

Looking at that now-found a perfect one on the first page but they require a 12 month commitment-it's only one afternoon or morning a week but if I find a job I doubt I'd be able to continue...carrying on looking...

That's what I was told by the council-also that I would need to have stairgates(3 storey house),safety film on the lounge doors, that my garden wasn't big enough, that I would need to provide a cooker guard(gas cooker), covers for all the sockets, that I would have to remove the pets from the lounge(nowhere else to put them)and that my house was too cluttered.

It may be worth contacting them anyway. It could lead to a paid job with them if you do volunteer or they may be willing to be flexible/ignore the requirement or offer something similar within the company.
  • Yeah, it can affect it if you do too many hours. Some advisors can be funny about volunteering for some reason and the JC often don't give you all the information regarding volunteering unless it suits them (i.e. "volunteering is good, volunteer 20+ hours for the JC for a few weeks, we have a high success rate of people finding work after").

If you just do a few hours a week it should not affect your benefits and it'll be good work experience and a reference (if needed).

I'd suggest seeing what volunteer places/jobs you can find and then inform the job centre if you find a volunteer job you'd like to do. If they're funny about it state the hours so they know it's not full time and point out the positives (much needed experience, reference etc).

I used to volunteer in a charity shop on a Saturday, when I was on benefits & it never affected my money, you just have to be careful how many hours you do, I know that volunteering helped me to find a full-time job (I know because my manager said that is it was not for me volunteering, they would not have interviewed me, as I had been unemployed for 3 years), also my positive attitude to get back into work helped too

  • Thats great news, hopefully you get somewhere with them, showing a willingness to work is the first step back into work, also some compromises may need to be made

Also about the school situation, it is not the school that make a child good or bad it's the parenting that they receive, all schools have good and bad kids, it's just the way they are, I understand that they may not be the best performing schools, but that is where you as the parent come in to help pick up some of the slack that the school has left, more than 70% of what we know is is not taught to us (eg by schools), but learnt by us (eg by learning from seeing others do things)

Plantar fasciitis doesn't have to be a long term condition - are you receiving the appropriate treatment and doing what you can to help it yourself (i.e. stretches, appropriate footwear etc)?

Agree with other posters that 11 & 14 year olds should be able to get themselves to & from school.

Part time jobs with family friendly hours are in high demand unfortunately. Do you have any friends who are parents who work part time and can you find out where they work and how flexible their employers are? You'll then get a good idea of the kind of jobs to aim for even if those organisations aren't recruiting at the moment. I work for a large organisation and they are known for family friendly policies and at the moment they are advertising for two part time admin based jobs, both specify x amount of hours but they seem to be flexible on the specific working pattern. If you can find out which employers in your area do this it might be helpful for you.

The exercises and insoles the doc recommended actually made it worse to the point where I couldn't walk at all and had to half hop to the car(automatic and my right foot was better than my left)-what's helped is actually ballet exercises(pre pointe exercises). I can now walk over 5 miles a day without pain but standing still just seems to set it off.

11 and 14 year olds do walk to and from school every day.

I don't have very many friends. Those that I do have either don't work at all or work part time while their children are in school mostly as cleaners. They however do less than 16 hours a week as all3 friends who do this are married and just want to earn a little bit of extra money. I have not found any employers that are flexible such as yours. All specify hours. Actually I did find one but the company wanted someone with 3 years experience in a busy office. I have 6 months experience 20 years ago in a very quiet office :(
