I wonder if you can help.
My soon to be 11 year old has asked for a grown up board game for Christmas
He is fed up playing his sisters younger games of shopping list and frustration.
We also have junior scrabble, snakes and ladders, junior monopoly.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

My 13 year olds favourite games are Chess and Mastermind, have been for years, I also like Go For Broke, which is the opposite concept of Monopoly, for some reason always preferred it to monopoly.SPC No 002 SPC(3) £285/£250 (4) £519.84/£500 (5) £768.32/£500 (6) £911.30/£600 (7) £913.23/£600 (8) £1184.82/£750 (9) £2864.04/£750 (10) £3846.25/£1000 (11) £1779.72/£1000 (12) £1596.55/£1000 (13) £1534.70/£1000 (14) £775.60/£1000 (15) £700.20/£1000 (16) £2081.34/£1000 (17) £1691.15/£1000 (18) £2470.95/£1000 (19) £0/£10000

Does he like any particular franchise? DD is Harry Potter mad and last year we got her Destination Hogwarts and Lego Hogwarts, both of which we are still playing. This year I've gone for pass the bomb, which hopefully the whole family will enjoy0

How many others does he have, to play the game with? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

This is great because it means that you can play with him without it being a total drag for you.
Personally, I like Carcassonne. Settlers of Catan (as recommended above) is good as well. And there's always Chess and Othello, Mastermind and Cluedo as previously mentioned, dominos scales up well too. Is he too young for poker, I wonder?
Only buy these things if you are happy to spend the time it takes to play them with him though. I would never buy Monopoly because I hate it so much.0 -
How about UNO, grown up but simple and engrossing.0

We love Uno, but it isn't really a board game. You could try Piktureka. My son learned to play backgammon at age 11 and still enjoys it (especially when he beats me, which is most times!)0
