  • Just had an email from my credit card company yesterday....

They have only gone and doubled my credit limit to £2000

In september they were being helpful refunding charges if I made a set payment by a set date to help me get under my credit limit..

Shocking behaviour from them in my opinion

If it helps your cash flow in the short term, it's not that much more expensive to pay monthly. It would be worse to over extend and then need to use a credit card for something else later on. But I know how you're feeling, I've got the same temptation...

It only works out at about £25 per month but I guess when you add OHs insurance and tax as well that's an extra £50 and before you. Know it all your DDs are adding up! :rotfl:

  • Hi all,

I hope you're all getting on well with debt busting.

I popping in for a little advice, I stopped by a few weeks ago to pull out for a little while, as my Mum passed away. She had been in a debt arrangement scheme, and in the last few weeks we have found the paperwork to show the balance remaining. It's more than any of us could afford to pay in a lump sum, and I wondered if anyone knows what the deal is with repaying someone else's debts?

The debt is formed of overdrafts and credit cards. I don't believe they can force the sale of her belongings (assuming it's all un-secured), but if we advise them there is no money left in the estate, what would happen in a few years time, if Dad decided he was lonely in that house, and wanted to down-size?

In my mind, I'm hoping we could write to them and ask them to settle the debt for a reduced amount, i.e. if the credit card is owed £4k, offer £2k to have the debt written off. I know this is something people can do with their own debts...
  • It may be worthwhile writing to them and letting them know your mums deceased, without offering anything.

I have known some companies to write off debts as there is nothing to change, especially if it is unsecured.
