Constant very low-level whining noise in house

Mrs thescouselander was complaining of an "electrical whine" in our house. Diagnosis - it was a leaking ball float valve on the cold water tank; just had to change the washer.0

Could it be the dastardly land grabbing neighbour , whistling through the letterbox in the wee hours
That one's doubtful, but if one wanted to get rid of a neighbour, sound beyond the range of human hearing might be the way to go.
Don't think I'll elaborate further, but people can be affected quite seriously by certain frequencies.0 -

That's something no-one would even think could create such a noise, so I guess its surprising what could have that effect.
Now wondering if I even have a cold water tank. The loft in this bungalow isn't one conducive to me going up in it to have a look, but will put that as a thought to Mr Boilerman when he comes.
Not the world's most restful sleep. I woke up and shot out of bed at top speed at one point thinking the roof had fallen in and rain was coming in at a rate of knots:eek: Duh! I had set up my computer in the next room to play a shorter YouTube video of rain falling (as "white noise") and I'd obviously fallen asleep to it, but somehow the video had started itself back playing again from the start:huh:. Cue me lying there pondering that fact...and another experiment...well...I had just been in the middle of a very "Celtic" dream ....
EDIT: Do all houses have cold water tanks? I presume they do...0 -

Think you're dismissing logic a little there.
Problem: I keep hearing an unknown source of white noise.
Answer: Introduce a louder source of known white noise.
Problem solved:beer:

Am guessing that's one of those things some people may get for no known reason, but the ones I've come across with it to date can pinpoint why (ie being subjected to heavy gun noise without ear protection on the one hand or lots of loud pop music on the other hand). I've not had any of either of those sort of things and have been quite protective about my hearing over the years, having heard the tales from people with tinnitus.
The noise has only been the last few days and I'm pretty darn sure it aint me at least. I've stood and had a good listen by my boiler and am feeling more suspicious of it than I was and now hoping that is the case, as it should be quite easily resolvable if so.
Must try out PN's suggestion this evening, once I've stopped being on alert for Mr Boilerman (who might be calling in shortly just for a looksee).
I don't mind the odd bit of non-silence in my home (provided it is occasional and with good reason), ie a bit of "adjusting" by my fridge or freezer, a little wind down a chimney or birdsong and rain outside and can manage, in the main, not to have "noise" here. My computer is much quieter than my previous one (had it specially made up for me and just a quiet whir that I don't mind, rather than a heavy-duty fan noise like the last one had).
You won't be able to isolate and identify tinnitus, it creeps up on you.
I have it, hence my thoughts.
I didn't know I had it until 1 summers morning, I was out early, 3 am on a fishing day.
It was the middle of nowhere and pre dawn chorus. Then I got it, I realised, there was no silence. This Whiiiiig, just carried on and only later when the birds did sing, did I hear the underlying droneI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -

Well if that's logic I'll have a pint on you.
Eg, My left foot hurts, my right 1 doesn't, answer?
Hit other foot with hammer .
We have equilibrium once againI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
