Can I ask what an AST is ?
The place we're letting for 3 weeks knows our situation and are more than happy to accomodate.
Cheers

Found the answer on gov.uk website :
Assured shorthold tenancies (ASTs)
A tenancy can’t be an AST if:
- it’s a holiday let

I think you're missing the subtlety of what other posters are saying.
You're correct: A tenancy can’t be an AST if it’s a holiday let
But what your're doing isn't a holiday let - because for those three weeks it will be your only or principle residence.
So put another way: you're not on holiday you're living there.
There are strict laws about this because dodgy landlords sometimes create 'Sham Holiday Lets' to get round the Housing Act.
(So if you decided you didn't want to move out after 3 weeks, the landlord might have big problems getting you evicted.)0 -
Ridiculous situation if the requirement to have short term lets is you must have somewhere else to live .
That could change during the let.
What about anyone letting a full house on the likes of airbnb do these letters know they could be lumbered with a 6m let?0 -
you can ask royal mail to withold all mail and collect in person for a short while and then set up a redirect afterwards0

No Sir! Only applies to a "Holiday Let" which, if landlord knows occupant is not actually on holiday it is not a "Holiday Let" but an AST. Most genuine holiday lets (eg 2 weeks in cottage in Cornwall in August) have no contractural issues over this.getmore4less wrote: »Ridiculous situation if the requirement to have short term lets is you must have somewhere else to live
There is nothing stopping a boring old AST being for 1 week, 3 weeks, 4 months, whatever (no, they don't have to be at least 6 months) so the OP could have had an OP: But landlord wouldn;t want that as he could easily evict for 6 months if OP keeps paying the rent.
Ah, I'm waiting for the test case when an airbnb occupant declines to leave claiming the "Protection from Eviction Act"..What about anyone letting a full house on the likes of airbnb do these letters know they could be lumbered with a 6m let?

Well lets say that's what my local delivery office do.
So your assertion that it is nonsense, is nonsense.
It does seem unlikely on the face of it: the delivery office retains all of your mail, then takes it to a Post Office for you to collect. I've never heard of that happening, and it seems much easier for Royal Mail to simply keep it at the Delivery Office as custardy suggests.0 -
We are thinking of ding this (but staying with my mum instead of a holiday let) problem for us is our vendor hasn't found anywhere yet so full mortgage app may or may not be submitted while wr are still living here. I don't know whether changing addresses to my mums mid application will have any effect or not!0
