Giving up a job what are the JSA sanctions?

If I hand my notice in, what sanction would I expect to receive? I think by memory reading on here it is 3 months so if I leave it 3 months before I try to claim JSA will a sanction still apply?
My temporary contract runs out before 3 months time so would I be able to claim after the date the contract expires or would I still be sanctioned as I gave up the position early.
Thanks

Reason for wanting to leave?0

You would be sanctioned for 13 weeks if you resign. 13 weeks from the date of your last working day.0

Wouldn't it be better to stick at the job for those few weeks?0 -
Reason for wanting to leave?
Does it matter? But I did guess I would be asked that!
Basically I can't cope with it. It is so busy I am having to do alot more than I was employed to do (1 and a half persons job). I am a single mother and just can't do both I could manage the stress of the job or looking after my son but not both, something has to give and as much as I like the job I will always put my son first. I understand at times jobs are busy and if it was a permanent role I would probably look at it differently and stick it out (it wont always be like this, but likely to be right up to when I am due to leave) the job ends early next year so I can't put my son through me shouting at him due to stress all the time because of a temporary position. I am working so hard for the company and next year when my contract ends it will just be bye to me without a second thought!
I could go to the doctors. I would get signed off (I have a history of depression) however I won't do that as I need to find another job and who is going to employ me with "off with stress" on my record. Better I just leave and keep a clean employment history.0 -

I am not sure the responses you are getting on here are correct.
The fact that it is only a temporary role might go in your favour with a decision maker as it is not a permanent role and expected to end very shortly.
My advise would be if it is that bad to get signed off for a couple of weeks with stress or whatever the work related problem is and then to quit because of this. Also a letter if you can get it from your Dr might also help if it went to a decision maker.
No point in doing a job you hate. Life is too short!!0 -

I wish I did hate it, I actually like it, luckily for my son I like him moreI like to work and if I could do that and just come home to be able to sit with a cup of tea and relax for a bit to get over the stress of the day everything would be fine - but I can't I have a child that needs my attention as soon as I have finished work and he is hard work!
I also have the added stress that the SENCO at school are investigating ds to see if he needs to be tested for anything as his behavoiur at school is causing concern.
I just can't do it all0 -
If the sanction is for 13 weeks do I have to start the claim as soon as I finish and wait it out or can I wait 13 weeks after I finish and if I don't find another job in that time claim when the time is up meaning no sanction will be on my record?0

Appreciate that advice but I don't think that is going to look very good when I apply for new jobs, or is it unlikely to matter?0 -
I don't know if things have changed but I had a couple of stressful jobs that were on the way down. And like you, I had a son (undiagnosed at the time) who had a few problems .., I basically didn't sleep because of these problems, and yes it was the start of years of problems with whichever school he went to.
I left both jobs.., for good reason (they were dreadful, incredibly long hours too) then tried to get temp jobs.., but to no avail. I was then able to sign on without any problems.
However things might have changed since this happened, it was some time ago.0
