thanks to everyone who has given their thoughts

No I am not getting anytime off over the holidays they are normal working days where I am and this is their busy period.

The reason I have been doing the work and trying to be helpful is I was clinging to the hope the job might become permanent but this is wishful thinking its not going to happen, it is maternity cover and the person is coming back. At the start I was also glad of the extra responsibility as thought it would help having more ability's to put on my cv but now it has got to the stage I just can't continue with it. To be fair every one in the company is taking on extra but like I explained it is different for them after these busy months they still have a job - I won't.

I think what I will do which has been suggested and ask for a meeting and explain I am happy to do the work I was employed to do but am no longer able to take on extra and if they want to end my contract early due to this I will understand and work the notice they require. I just hope this wont effect any reference but I suppose its no worse than just leaving.

Who knows, but what's apparent on this thread is people giving thoughtless opinions of what sanctions she is likely to get when they are just guessing.

A DM is independent so they might give a 26 , 13, 8 , 4, 2 or 1 week sanction or no sanction at all. Someone seems to think they will be given a 13 week sanction which is incorrect as it will be decided by the DM when case is heard.

I think you misunderstand the point of internet forums.
  • My husband left a job due to the stress of it making him Ill and he got no sanction. You just won't know till the time tbh

Enlighten me please & how do you know what a DM is likely or not likely to think?

BTW, I suggest you read the above post of Mummyroysof3

Please enlighten us to how you know that they might not, also just because one person does not get sanctioned does not mean another one won't

The OP asked for advice the most likely outcome is a sanction IMO, there is no real reason for the OP to give up a job that is so near completion it makes no sense to me

I have depression & I do more work than my pay grade asks, but IMO it is best to get people to understand how you work, myself I am hardworking & I will take on extra responsibility if it is offered to me, going above & beyond the call of duty is the norm for me, I like to be busy, I get bored if I have nothing to do, I don't understand why others don't have this mind set too

I think the OP should stick it out & then when they are "let go" legitimately, then they definitely won't get a sanction, simples!

So the answer is stick it out if you don't want to risk a sanction

A DM acts independently and will look at the facts of the reasoning behind quitting a job. Some DM's might decide she quit because as a previous poster stated that she was lazy which wasn't the case. Another DM might rightly take a differing view.
  • but if we are being honest with the OP, the likelihood of a good outcome is slim to none

Not if she was to go and see her GP, get signed off from work and get a letter from him stating she couldn't continue in the role as it was making her unwell.

I guess so, but is it really making her unwell or is it just a matter of playing the system TBH

I think staying with it if its only a couple of weeks would be better than quitting due to ill health, when there are other things that could help the illness (e.g. medication, exercise or CBT)

    Playing the system!!!

Excuse me you know NOTHING about me or my situation. If I was playing the system I would not be in this job, which I have done happily for nearly a year!

I am a single parent, following the JSA rules I only have to work for 16 hours and only within school hours. Those who are looking for work will know jobs like that are non-existence meaning I could stay claiming JSA and play the system for 6 years until my son turns 13 when I have to look for full time work.

However I choose to take a full time job meaning my son is looked after by strangers before and after school. On weekdays he spends more quality time with them than he does me. I chose to do this as I want to work.

I don't know if you have children and not sure if you read the part of my post that my son is currently being looked at to see if he needs to be assessed to diagnose any problems, I am sure you can appreciate that alone is a worrying time for a parent. Whilst at the same time working in a currently very stressful job and being a single parent to a challenging child.

Exercise!! Please tell when I can actually do any exercise, I get up drop ds at nursery, go to work, finish work, collect him, then he is with me all evening. What am I suppose to do with him whilst I am at the gym/exercising? Before anyone mentions I could do exercise with him I have tried it is not easy and certainly not beneficial to him or my state of mind see above post re possible issues.

Also I do take medication thank you for your helpful suggestion. Interesting I was off it and only started on it again since I started working, not that I was worried about that, plenty of people do whilst working but again appreciate your concern! If you bother to actually read what I have written you would see I don't want to go back to the docs to increase my medication as I will be signed off with stress a guarantee to make sure I am no so employable maybe I should do that as you seem to think I am playing the system perhaps I should!
