Housing benefit calculation
How your housing benefit is worked out;
Weekly Eligable rent (local housing allowance) £72.00
Less 65% of Excess Income £20.12
Weekly housing benefit awarded £51.88
Is the excess income JSA or something else.0 -

For there to be a deduction of £20.12 it means he has about £31 more than his applicable amount (amount the Government says he needs to live on for basic living costs). What income are they using in the calculation of his benefit entitlement? These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.0 -
If this is under weekly income & capital
Earnings £108.35
half of any pension contributions on earnings were deducted in the assessment
Less Income Disregarded £5.00
Total Weekly Income £103.350 -
I think you have got very muddled with everything.
It seems that you are saying that he is your lodger and you are charging him £40 a week (is that what you told the council you are charging him?)
If this is what you told the council then this is what they will pay him in HB even when his overpayment has finished because this is what his lodger agreement says.
If he is your lodger then he is not liable for council tax - you are. If he wasn't living with you, you would still pay the council tax the council say that you are liable for.
Your friend sounds vulnerable if he is not getting himself sorted and has overpayments so I suggest both of you go to CAB and they can help you sort things out. They will also have organizations that may help your friend.0 -

Selling up seems like the less stressful option.... I would be already packed and ready.:D0 -
Believe me I would but I do have a 12 year old daugher and soon to be 9 year old son who live with their mum. You should see the house up there for £80k lovely 4 bedroom. Right in the village where my father was born, I cant see it long before I do this. Would love to have that house in memory of my father who has made it possible for me to do this.0

Hello again. I sent them the letter they wanted 1st class last Sunday, and come Friday they still had not received my letter. So shall I write another one. When the citizens advice lady phoned them and spoke to them they said they would send me a form to fill but they never. So it looks like I will have to go CA again tomorrow.
Bless you all0 -

Write letter - scan it and email the benefit team with a copy - separately either post it or hand it in.These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.0
