JSA Suspended, They need to know what my lodgers rent goes towards.

Morning all. Had the change in your js allowance letter this morning. Called the number to find out why and they told me that they needed a letter to ask whats included in my lodgers £40 per week he pays me. Truth is it goes towards the council tax has but thats not the issue.
So could someone in the know please tell me what he said on the phone as the call has stressed me out a little and as usual had no pen with me.
I got the part where he said we need to know what the rent goes towards and that I need to sign and date when the agreement went through but I think I missed something out.
Could anyone tell me what else I need to put down please as my phone credit will soon be running out.
Thanks

Heating lighting, do you feed him, they need to know what you give him for it not what you spend the cash on, see a CAB advisor or other appropriate volunteer. ASAP.The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

Dont think this letter will come today, so I will write as the first person I spoke about this told me to put it in writing what Mr ###### rent goes towards. Is there a template letter I can copy or can someone here help me write one. It wont hurt sending a letter off today as I cannot sit around waiting for a letter that could not arrive.
Thanks and sorry to be a pain.0 -
I suspect that they want a breakdown as they want to know if you provide board and lodging.
If you prepare or cook a meal for your 'lodger' then they will make a £20 deduction from the rent and then deduct a further 50% of the rent. So if you are charging £40 a week they will only deduct £10 a week from your JSA. JSA minus £20 and then minus 50 % of £20 =deduction of £10 from JSA.
So in your letter you should say that £30 is for accommodation and £10 is for preparation and provision of ****** (breakfast?)
You can read about it here:

£40 is quite a low figure so they are probably looking to see about the provision of 'board'.0 -
Thanks pmlindyloo. Well he is a friend, I would not do this for a stranger, I am doing him a favour and I am not making no profit here. Shortly it will go up to £51. He is paying back money owed when he last claimed HB. He was sanctioned from JSA and after he went back apparntly he said they were only going to pay him £10 ( so he says ) so he told them it was not worth it. £10 for no minutes work and as you will know he got the dreaded letter saying HB was being withdrawnn. I dont think I have done him any favours taking him in but I am a soft touch.
I have just managed to complete the council tax benefit form online and going to take the documents up now.
If you dont mind answering another, they want statements but I dont have them delivered anymore so do I got to the bank and get them or do I print them off.
Thanks again0 -

Sorry people but another question. So whatever I lose from my jsa do I have a good enough excuse to ask him to top up the difference. I think I can give him that option or he leaves and goes back to the shelter and whatever he does with his money is his business. At the end of the day I am not going to be out of pocket and minus a room. TBH hes only paying £80 a month to stay here as the HB is paid to him and he tops up with £20. That is so wrong, Hope you can understand what I am saying. Plus I have service charges. I could really do without this. Sorry for the moan and I really appreciate the help I have got today.0

How much is his rent? In your first post you say he pays you £40 per week but later you say he only pays £80 per month? These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.0

Sorry, £40 is what the HB pays into his account each week, What good is that measly payment to me. So I ask him to top that up himself £20. Sorry if that seems unfair but I am very happy for him to go and I have my flat back to myself. I am not being out of pocket again. Im not being rude HBO but atm I just cant word it properly.0

So how much do you charge him - £60 per week with HB paying £40 per week and your lodger topping up by £20 per week? These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.0
