    Housing benefit calculation

    How your housing benefit is worked out;
Weekly Eligable rent (local housing allowance) £72.00
Less 65% of Excess Income £20.12

    Weekly housing benefit awarded £51.88

Is the excess income JSA or something else.

It looks as though his HB is based on a weekly rent of £72.00 minus the excess of £20.12 minus his overpayment giving a total of approx' £40.

Your problem is it looks as though your lodger has declared a rent of £72.00 and surely you have confirmed this on his agreement which would of had to be submitted to the Council.....

Therefore you need to update the Council with the true figure you are charging.

You will be giving conflicting info' to DWP about the amount you charge and what he declares as rent.

  • Now got a ctax reminder. He will have to go to the citizens advice monday or when they are back. I do someone a favour and all I get is aggravation. Phone calls and online benefit claims all because he is here. Surely the system can house a 62+ in some sort of abode like a b&b. Ive had enough now I need to concentrate on my new bizz.and not getting letters asking for so and so's payslips and what I am living on, its getting a joke now.

Hope you all had a nice xmas

its very dependant on the housing stock that is available in the arera.
where i live , he would wait a max of a few weels for housing ... nuy oy varies so much
  • Write letter - scan it and email the benefit team with a copy - separately either post it or hand it in.

Do you have a email address please HBO

    Happy New Year all
  • Morning all. Called them up Tuesday and they said they would call me back later on or the next day. Anyway they did call me back told be only £10 will be discarded and that a payment will go in the next day to which it did.

Then I get a called from the work-force club that I used to go to every Tuesday and offer me a 16 hour Cleaning job that is all day Monday and Tuesday. I worked for them before and I will clear £104 per week and get help with my fares.

So my question is, I am currently claiming Council Tax benefit ( haven't been awarded this yet but soon as I get word I will have to call them again. I am sure other people doing this still sign on and get HB and CTB but to be honest I am just happy to be working again as I have done a day before at the location which is one stop away on the train and right next to the job centre.

    Good luck with the job.

  • Hello all.

Now lodgers hb has been suspended once again without warinng ( unless he had a letter earlier and ignored it. Emailing my mp and she told me that once they receive his certificate of earnings they need a break down on what his rent goes towards but this time its not the people of jsa I am dealing with now but the HB and they have stated that if successful it will be £52 per week. If they have already made a decision why do they need to know what hes lodgings go towards.

Never, ever will I take in another lodger again.

    Thanks

It's probably to check if the rent you charge includes electricity, gas, water etc as these expenses would be deducted from his HB award i expect.
