I guess with me it's just habit ... whenever I pick up the phone to make a call (whether off the dock, which brings it out of screensaver anyway, or not) I always press the red "hang up" key before dialling. That way the phone is out of screensaver so I've never seen the issue described.0

^^^ Hmmm I can't see that working very well. If the Government dept. responsible for prosecuting the cold callers gets to know that someone has been cold called without a number displayed, who are the going to call to find out who to prosecute???0

We have had call guardian for a while now and it has been a great success.
We have all withheld numbers blocked. If people are arranging to call us we tell them withheld numbers are not accepted. It has not been a problem.
We reckon if somebody doesn't want to reveal their number then we don't need to speak to them.
Our GP surgery, hospitals and police all use landlines to call.0 -

Trouble with that approach is that you'll never know which calls you've missed - and some of them could be important. Plenty of ordinary people (I'm one, our daughter's another) have withheld their landline numbers to avoid companies harvesting them, and for simple reasons of privacy. A lot of our friends have, too, and so have quite a few businesses and professionals. It really isn't that uncommon.0 -

My sister does as well, yet complains about calls she gets from withheld numbers
She however reveals her number when calling me by using the prefix in my number in her phone's phonebook.
When I was out of work, I was relying on being called for the job applications I had been making. Any agency would announce themselves, cold callers never did. That saved me lots of time answering cold callers.0 -
I am thinking of getting one of these phones , just not sure which the current best one is.0
