BT8500 Phone with Call Guardian

  • Posted this elsewhere, but it's too good not to share!

We've had a BT8500 set for a couple of months now, and it really does screen out cold callers. Had to add the regular numbers to its phone book, but then it just works. We've twice needed to add numbers when they go through the screen, but it's as simple as pressing '1' or '2'. The phones blocked 21 calls last week!

Only downside is that you can't have a corded phone plugged in to another socket, as it might mess with the system's call handling...

Does anyone know... I have three handsets in the house - base unit with answering machine and two others. If I buy this type of phone do I need to replace them all (ie buy a triple set) or will the single phone do?

Buy a triple ... all phones need need to be on the same system else you end up with the situation from post #12 with calls getting through to the old system.

If you only have a single phone point then you can only realistically have one "system" connected anyway.
  • FWIW I just got the single unit with answerphone. yes my other cordless phones ring first, but unless the BT8500 rings I do not bother. Other cordless phones are now used for outgoing calls, and I take the 8500 handset with me if I go in the garage/garden etc.

Brilliant piece of kit. I was going to get a black box with Truecall as I already had a set of cordless phones, but that was £90 odd and phone £25 odd. No brainer really

I bought the same phone for myself, I loved it that much I got one for my dad. Possibly one of the best things bought this year!

We got a double handset version earlier this year - about 6 months ago ... STILL not a single unwanted call since we got it, whereas we were getting at least 1 per night beforehand. :)

As above simply the best buy I've ever made. Not a single nuisance since installation.
  • I agree - this phone is brilliant. I tell everyone I know to get one. Now I just need the same thing for my mobile!

The phone is a cut down version of Truecall, so well worth the money. I have had truecall for around 5 years now. In that time no cold calls get through and they do call. The full version of truecall you can check online who calls. I noticed in past 2-3 years I get less cold calls I think they must be getting the message my number is a no no.
  • I must admit they are persistent. With the ones that do show their number, they still call every odd day, despite never getting through. :)
