  • REMEMBER!!!

If you work with VDU (computer screens) for 4 or more hours per day then your employer has to pay for your eye test! Speak to your HR dept about how your employer deals with this as you may be able to just submit expenses from your usual optician, other larger employers may have a preferred optician or voucher scheme.

SO that's free all the time, no strings attached!

    :rotfl:

Ho Ho Ho ...... Ha, Ha, Ha!!!

I've worked for two large companies, working on PC for between 7 - 9 hours a day (with No Lunch Break, as I did not get time) and when ever you mentioned the EYE SIGHT provision of H & S .......... all you got was a
"You must be joking" ............. OR a "Haven't time to talk about it now, come back and speak to me later/tomorrow"!!! [what they actually mean was NEXT CENTAURY]

Must have something to do with my living in the REAL WORLD?

99% of employers only ever pay lip-service to Health & Safety and the Working Practice laws .......... so good luck if you can get your employer to couth up!
Only way I can afford an Eye Sight Test normally is to rely on my families history of Glaucoma, as that then entitles me to a FREE Eye test!
One thing to note, I've just had a test done at my local Tesco Opticians, as they where doing Free Tests also ................ had the test, bought a new pair of glasses and GOD wish I had not ........ their prescription is WRONG (I now have to squint to read signs, teletext, etc.)!!!

So with the D & A Free Test, I'm going for a second opinion and if it's different to the Tesco one .............. I'm on the WAR PATH.

If the tesco one is wrong, then you could be in for a decent payout from them really as a wrong prescription could hinder you in so many ways.. and especially if you use them for driving, it could cause an accident. :)

  • I used this and my employer will contribute £40 towards glasses as they are needed solely for VDU use. Found D&A to do a thorough exam and were good at explaining things - discovered I have astigmatism. Their glasses are pricey - £55 for some frames in the sale and lenses add another £60 for basic lenses or £95 for their recommended ones. Specsavers have designer glasses with single vision lenses in on 241 at £125 a pair.

filled out the form, got my vouchers within 2 minutes, went to book an appointment online only to discover that the nearest D&A store is 60 miles away!
Should have checked first I suppose, but I thought they were pretty well nationwide.
  • ScoobyCanDo,

If your employer mucks you about I'd suggest getting your eyes tested and just handing over the receipt as expenses with a print out of the HSE website.

If they refuse to pay, point out they are legally obliged to cover the cost and you're happy to refer it higher up the chain.

After all you're entitled to it.
  • I just filled the form & sent it, got the e-mail back already.:T

It is only valid till 05/10/2007
  • If you do need glasses, or you already need glasses and have gone for a retest. D & A will put a little note on your prescription which says "The Prescriber Accepts No Liability For Intollerance for This Prescription"...what this means in laymans terms is that if you get your prescription, go to any opticians other than DandA and then find the lenses you have had fitted arent correct, you will not be able to go back to DandA and claim recompense, so effectively you will need to have another eye test done at the opticians you are buying the glasses from if you want the comeback ...... bit of a con really, unless you have the test and find you dont need glasses, in which case you've saved yourself a few bob. Craig:confused:

SpecSavers are £16.50 for an eye test as of today... just thought I'd mention it.
