    Are you sure?

    Yes I'm sure!

I've been getting them for 8 years this way from 4 different employers now. Granted at my current employer I had to request it then get them to look it up but they paid it.

It's legislation from the governments health and safety executive, and you ARE entitled to it so don't let your employer tell you otherwise!
  • Damn, no excuse not to get my eyes tested now! lol

  • Yep,
If u work with a PC /VDU then your employer will pay for your eystests. I had a couple over the last 4 years and am due one this year.
You normally have to get an additional form (issued by HR) signed by the Opticians. Pay for it yourself and then submit the form and receipt as expenses.
As i've got a company credit card it never goes out of my pocket anyway.

In the past it has been local opticians next to work - but I want to go to one of the big boys now and have a mega thorough exam - who does a good one?

    Specsavers
    Vison EXpress etc or other

  • I applied for a voucher late yesterday evening (via IE7), but it still hadn't arrived by 12:15 today. Nor did I get one using a different email address and Firefox.

So I emailed their customer services, and received an apology and voucher at 16:12. A few differences from T&Cs listed above:

    - expires 31/8/07 (not a problem)
    - not restricted to to customers who have not had an eye test at Dollond & Aitchison in the last 2 years.
  • I work in retail and part of our EPOS is a flat screen computer monitor (our tills are Microsoft Windows based :D) can I claim an eye test from my employer because of this? Although I'm never in front of it for 4 hours in a row.
  • Lee, I'd suggest checking the HSE website but my understanding of the legislation was that it's 4 hours PER DAY not 4 hours in one go!

After all, the other tip is that you should take a 5 min screen break every hour!

In my workplace not only do I get to reclaim the cost (up to £30), but also can claim back 30 minutes of time, even if I take the test at the weekend.:j
