I do it to kill time and like LadyM says the anticipation of something coming for me unexpected. I can get rather giddy when I see the postman, yes I am that sad. Most of my wins I have been aware of them. Ive won £21 worth of stuff since I restarted in October, but its to be expected to be honest.Current Aims: Laptop/PC, decent money, holiday
Best Wins: Ipad, Nintendo 3DS, £400 Shopping Spree at LK Bennett, £100 Boots vouchers
Total Wins (Since April 2012) £3442.56
Big thanks to all who post comps :T:beer:0 -
OP,just carry on comping but do not hold high hopes then you won't feel disappointed if you do not win, comping should be treated as a hobby and as for the articles in the newspapers they may be true but remember these people may just be having a very good run of luck meaning most of us will be unlucky,i comp everyday entering about 20-40 a day and i haven't won a thing all year,it is what it is,luck of the draw.Good Luck Everyone:dance:0

Got to say if you're looking at increasing cash into your home then comping just doesn't make financial sense. There are very VERY few of us that could work out their hourly rate - value of prizes won/time spent entering - and come out with a figure that was acceptable. If your primary goal is to increase revenue coming into your household then look at the other parts of the forum - Debt free wannabe is great with a long list of tips and tricks to increase your money - surveys, Ebaying, mystery shopping, etc.
Comping works as a fun hobby for me. An enjoyable way to pass some time while I sit on my erse on the sofa after work. If I looked at it logically then I'd sack it off and find another way of spending my time.Comps £2016 in 2016 - 1 wins = £530 26.2%

I'm thinking there's something bigger going on here, maybe a spiritual reason or something because the odds are so high with the sheer amount we are entering and have entered. Don't suppose there's anyone else on here who is having the same bad luck is there??
So from the posts above hopefully you've seen that maybe you are invalidating your entries by entering comps twice from the same IP address etc. But I'm the waffly, wafty hippy type so I thought I'd jump on the "there's something bigger going on here" bit
Why not try changing the way you think about entering comps? Rather than "I've got to win things are desperate" try "Cor this is fun I might win something nice"? Especially useful when wins are not coming in. OK that might sound like complete crud but for me it works.
As for the spiritual bit...well if all of us in the world with faith/belief are right about our Gods/Goddesses there must be plenty up there *waving finger at the sky* so pick one, send up daily requests/mantras/whatever who knows they might just listen.
When I first came across MSE's comp boards I just wanted to go out. I could scrap the money to get to places but couldn't afford the tickets etc. So I asked and I entered and not long after I was winning tickets left, right and centre. So with my railcard clutched in paw I had some top nights out. So of course that might just be the way luck was going for me but (I've already warned you I was a wafty type) I started to believe more that 'they' were listening. This (for me) got even better when in the summer I was saving (not very successfully) for a new guitar for Jnrs big BD. I got a call from MTV telling me I'd won one, it was even the make I'd been hoping to save for.
Of course I'd love to win a sack of cash, but maybe I don't really need a sack of cash? I don't know. I hope I haven't offended you or anyone with my waffle. But you asked so I thought I'd answer.
I really hope your luck changes and everything you wish for lands on your doorstep very soon xxx"The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands,

I only comp for the thought of winning, that few minutes/hours after entering a competition of what ifs. Yeah it would be nice having some of the prizes, and I only enter those that I can make use of but I don't ever think I'm "due" a prize because I have entered 1000 comps in one month. Getting into that mindset would kill comping for me and take away the enjoyment.2014 wins:

I've been comping for the same amount of time as you. There have been times where I have cleared the boards and been optimistic that if I keep it up for 6 months I will get at least one win but it never happened. Comping just doesn't work like that. I haven't had a win since March and I swear to God I have entered for almost everything. (Not including the things I don't want or need - it's a waste of time for me and I leave those for somebody else who would benefit). However, I have found that a win comes when I least expect it. Look at the wins in my sig at the bottom of this post. I'm not bragging but it should be a good motivator for you.
If you aren't winning perhaps you are voiding your entries by entering another person when it says only one person can enter. Always read the t&c's.
Another tip is to branch out and do the comps you wouldn't normally do like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, rafflecopters, dailies, advents, etc. I won my £2,500 on a effort comp and normally I would avoid those because I'm lazy lol.
Good luck, I am sure if you keep it up that you will win something one day. The trick is to enter and forget. Don't get your hopes up. Be optimistic and have a winner attitude.0 -

I really think there is something to this. If you believe that you are a winner you become a winner.
For example, I am a huge Lady Gaga fan and have won a couple of Gaga competitions and what are the odds of that happening! It was like it was meant to be. And I knew I was going to win my money prizes (which are the prizes I've wanted the most) because I told myself I was a winner and was going to win.
I tell people all the time "tell the universe what you want and you will get it". It sounds stupid but it works for me as long as I'm doing my bit by entering the comps. Just don't be greedy and ask the universe for a Euromillions win.
My boyfriend has been entered for most of the competitions too. Either I enter him if the t&c's allow me or he enters from his own IP address. But he hasn't won a thing other than a multipack of Cheerios and a Cushelle koala lol. I told him it's because he hasn't asked "the universe" for some help.
However, I am going through a dry spell but I think "the universe" is waiting to surprise me. :rotfl:0 -

I don't believe that
I don't ask for much and that's exactly what i get0 -
I agree with the above, if you are entering comps to change your life, I think you may be waiting quite a long time ...
Personally, 'comping' is just a fun hobby to do on an evening and wait to see what the Postman brings! If you are wanting financial gain, I would maybe try the job centre or completing surveys for cash etc.
Also, it is highly irritating when people enter 'comps' when they have absolutely no interest in the prize! Everyone's chances would slightly increase if people actually entered comps that they would like to recieve.
It may be worth you checking the terms and conditions of the comps that you are entering, you may be invalidating several enteries if you are entering twice (or from the same computer).
Just comp for fun, and whatever you gain out of it is a bonus!0
